STABLE of youth to reopen bowling alley THE STABLE o f youth opened its new doors on Monday, August 27, in the former Shamrock Lanes bowling alley. Bobbette Lovgren, manager, said she wanted to find a new building that would “be full service for all ages in the community.” The new STABLE of youth will feature dining, bowling and video games for all ages. The bowl ing lanes are expected to be up and running within the next two weeks. The cafe will feature full breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus. Lovgren env isioned a center that would be a place for children and youth of the community to meet and have fun. There were many people involved with the planning of the project hut she was coexistant in follow ing through to make sure it happened. Heppner team participates in Relay For Life event The last weekend of July marked the seventh annual Relay For Life in Prineville. It is the fourth year for the team “Just Us” to participate. The team is made up of Celita Strouse, Jessica and Josh Roy, Ruth Maben, Toni and Shannon Wicklund, all from Hepp- ner, and Rebecca Wicklund Sw earingen, co-chair of the relay from Prineville, and Jeff and Kathy Maben of Mt. Vernon. “Just Us” team came in third place out of 22 teams for the amount of money raised. With the help o f people in Heppner the team turned in $3,207.71 which helped the relay reach the goal of $60,000 this year. All proceeds from the relay w ill help benefit the American Cancer Society’s (ACS) ef fort to find a cure for cancer and assist cancer survivors with living life as fully as possible. Teams camp out on the football field, sleeping in tents or on the ground. There are activities, games, massages, support groups and even an espresso trailer. Someone is walking at all times, day and night, be cause cancer never sleeps. This year's relay theme was Take a Holiday From Cancer and each team site was decorated for a holi day. “Just Us" team chose to decorate their site for the 4th of July.
