(L-R): back row Sarah Price, Sean Murray and Aaron Allstott assist Heppner Elementary stu
dents in the Bal-A-Vix-X program.
Students at Heppner
Elementary have been par
ticipating in the Bal-A-Vis-
X program. Bal-A-Vis-X is
a series of balance, auditory,
and vision exercises of var
ied complexity. Most activi
ties are deeply rooted in
rhythm. The program utiliz
es beanbags, racquetballs,
balance boards and tracking
devices.
It demands coopera
tion, prom otes self-ch al
lenge, fosters peer teaching,
and also naturally lengthens
attention spans, said a school
news release. Teachers have
noticed that as the students’
balance, fine motor, and co
ordination im prove, their
academics and behavior also
improve, according to the
school news release.
Five students partic
ipated in the program this
year. Teachers Melissa Coin
er and Mary Ann Elgueza-
bal say they hope that more
students will be able to par
ticipate next year. The pro
gram benefits all students as
they make gains in eye-hand

“The Bal-A-Vis-X
program has the essential el
ements to bring all of the
senses together to help ev
ery student improve in some
manner.”
The program will be

year. Anyone who would like
