Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Mustangs sweep Rangers By Rick Paullus The Heppner Mus tang baseball team took two important Special District 5 games in Dufur on Saturday, April 28, 10-0 and 16-6 with both games ending after five innings because of the ten- run rule. The Mustangs, now 14-0 in SD5 and 15-3 over all, will be at home on Sat urday, May 5 for a double header against the Sherman County Huskies and will be at W eston-M cE w en on Tuesday, May 8. The M ustangs scored twice in the top of the first when Dennis Kenny sin gled and came home on a two out triple and Nacho Elguezabal reached on an error to score Rauch. They kept up the pressure in the second as Bryan Holland walked and stole second and with two outs Chance Day singled him home. Kenny reached on an error to score Day and Quinn Peck had an RBI double to make it 5-0. It stayed that way until the fourth when Kenny and Peck walked, with two o uts N athan K ennedy Walked, and Holland cleared the bases with a triple and Wacy Coil had an RBI sin gle to make it 9-0. They made it 10-0 in the fifth when Day walked and ended up scoring on a Rauch sacrifice fly. Day made it stand up as he pitched a three-hit shut out striking out five and walking one. H olland went 2-2 with three RBIs and scored twice; Coil went 2-3; Rauch had two RBIs; Kenny scored three runs; and Day scored twice. The M ustangs jumped out to another lead in the second game scoring six runs in the top of the first. Day singled; Kenny doubled; Peck hit a sac fly to score Day; Rauch had an RBI sin gle; Elguezabal doubled; Drew Johnson reached on a fielder’s choice; Holland had an RBI double; Coil and Colton Hanson walked; and Day scored two more with a single. The Rangers scored one in the bottom half and cut the lead in half with two more in the second but the Mustangs came back with three more in the third, all coming with two outs. Day and Kenny singled; Peck had an RBI sin g le; R auch walked; Elguezabal reached on an error to score one; and Johnson walked with the bases loaded to force in an other run. The Rangers scored two in the bottom half to get with 12-6 but the Mustangs made it a 10-run difference in the fifth when Holland walked; Coil reached on a fielder’s choice; Sam King walked; Holland scored on a wild pitch; Day walked; Peck had an RBI single; and Rauch scored two more with a single. Rauch went two in nings to pick up the win with Kennedy going two innings in relief and Kenny pitching a scoreless fifth. Day went 4-4 scor ing four runs and getting two RBIs; Peck went 2-4 with three RBIs; Rauch went 2-3 with three RBIs; Elguezabal went 2-4 with two RBIs; Kenny went 2-4 and scored tw ice; Coil scored three runs; and Holland scored twice.
