High school student interns with “ Radium Girls”

High senior R.J. Farrens, due
to his interest in politics, was
interviewed for an internship
with our representative Greg
Smith. The internship took
place in Salem at the State
Capital building. According
to R.J., Greg Smith went
above
and
beyond
introducing the world of
politics to him. R.J. sat in on
sessions while bills were
getting passed, with Mr.
Smith right there explaining
every step o f the way,
making sure R.J. got the
most out of the experience.
R.J receiv ed the
opportunity to testify on a
House Bill in front of the
judiciary committee. The bill
dealt with freedom of speech
in high school and college
newspapers. R.J. stated that
Greg Smith’s willingness to
m ake sure he had an
understanding of the political
world, was unmatched by
any
o th er
d istric t
representative.
R.J. plans to attend
University of Oregon where
he plans to take new steps in
furthering his education in
the world of politics.
HHS student qualifies for
National FBLA conference

and auction to be held
A Mexican dinner and auction benefit will be held
for Roy Proctor on Saturday, April 2 1, from 4 to 7 p.m. at
St. Patrick’s Catholic Parish Hall. Roy was diagnosed with
Fanconi Anemia and is in need of a bone marrow transplant.
The transplant is scheduled to happen in New York. The
cost is $5 per person. Roy’s 2006 HHS classmates and
community members are organizing this event. MaryAnn
Elguezabal, Roberta Lutcher, and Dora Collins are
organizing the dinner.
Anyone unable to attend and would like to make a
donation to the Proctor family, an account has been set up
at the Bank of Eastern Oregon under "The Proctor Family
Medical Fund."
