Christmas tree permits are now available at all offices
of the Umatilla National Forest and will be available at
several local vendors by this Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
Permits can be purchased for $5 each. One Christmas tree
permit is required for each tree cut. There is a limit of one
tree per household, although you can purchase permits for
your friends, relatives, and neighbors.
Douglas fir and Englemann spruce are the most popular
trees, though Ponderosa pine and lodgepole pine make
unique and fragrant alternatives. Permits are valid on
Federal Forest Service lands only and do not authorize tree
cutting on private. State or other federally managed lands.
Permits and Forest maps can be purchased during regular
office hours, Monday through Friday, at the supervisor’s
office in Pendleton and at the four district offices in Ukiah
and Heppner, Oregon; and Walla Walla and Pomeroy,
Washington.
Permits may also be purchased at the Shell station
and Green Feed in Heppner.

WHO SETS THE PRICE?
prices will be driven up - it's
only natural.
If there is an overabun
dance of homes on the market,
the demand wanes and sellers
may have to adjust their price
downward in order to make a
sale.
Other factors in the market
place set the pace of supply
and demand, and these ingre
dients are much more power
ful than the real estate agents
who carry out the wishes of
buyers and sellers.

It’s a popular misconcep
tion that Realtors set home
prices, but actually nothing
could be further from the truth.
In reality, buyers and sell
ers set the price, and real es
tate agents only facilitate what
the market is by compiling sta
tistics and offering informa
tion so that sellers can be in
formed as they put their homes
on the market.
Home prices, just like most
commodities, are a function of
supply and demand. If there is
high demand and short supply.
