Crum Ranch tractor catches fire School report cards show significant growth in
Morrow County Schools

Fire Departments responded
to a tractor fire at Monte
Crum's ranch on Ella Road
near lone on Tuesday, Oct.
10 .
Steve Ball, a ranch
hand for Crum Ranches, was
in the process of planting
when he noticed flam es
coming up from under the
tractor. He quickly got off
the tractor and ran to his
home, which is about 1/8
mile from where he was
working and called in the
fire. Wayne Rietmann, who
lives across the road from
the field, also spotted the fire
and made a call to the fire
department.
Heppner and lone
fire departments responded
to the scene and put out the
fire. H ow ever, the fire
restarted Wednesday, Oct.
11 and had to be put out
again.
No
land
was
dam aged in the fire;
however, it is believed that a
no-till drill attached to the
tractor was damaged.

The recent release of
the O regon State School
Report Cards was cause for
c e le b ra tio n in M orrow
County. All schools showed
significant growth in many
areas w hile two schools
earn ed the p re stig io u s
“exceptional” school rating.
During the 2005-06
school year the M orrow
C ounty School D istrict
B oard
of
D irecto rs,
administrative team and staff
set lofty performance goals
for all of their students. The
goal read that, “Each student
will achieve annual reading
and m ath R1T gains
prescribed by Oregon State
grade level standards. Each
student, a grade level or
more deficient in reading
a n d /o r m ath sk ills, w ill
achieve RIT gains sufficient
to ach iev e the stan d ard
within three years.” It is
o b v io u s
from
the
outstanding perform ance
and growth shown on the
state rep o rts that the
implementation of this goal
played a significant role in
positively impacting student
performance.

a.m. Tuesday. Oct. 17, along

Undersheriff Steve Myren
stumbled upon a car on the
side o f the road. In the

approach the car, the driver
headed towards the trees of
the Potlatch Tree Farm .

approximately 32 miles at
speed up to 115 mph,” said
Undersheriff Myren.

two sets of spike strips and

Bill and Marcy Bacon, formerly o f lone and
Heppner, are pleased to announce the engagement of their
daughter, Katie Marie Bacon to Michael Huff of Bend.
The bride-elect is a 2001 graduate of lone High
School and a 2005 graduate of University of Montana-
Western. She is currently the technology operations
manager for the Bend-LaPine School District.
The groom-elect is a 2000 graduate of Crook
County High School and a 2005 graduate of Oregon State
University. He graduated in 2006 with his m aster's in
education from Eastern Oregon University. He is currently

DA’s office reports handling

pled guilty to three counts of
Burglary II, a Class C felony.
He was sentenced to 24
months formal probation and
payment of $2513 in fines
and fees and was barred from
