TEN - Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, May 3, 2006 INWM to hold fundraiser Inland Northwest O rchestra and Chorale in concert, April 1, 2006 in Baker City. Join Inland Northwest Musicians and take a stroll dow n memory lane at their 6,h annual “Old Time Radio” dinner auction fundraiser, Saturday, June 3, at the Pendleton Convention Center. Nostalgic decorations from the golden age of radio are sure to delight you as you listen to stories from radio's past as told by Harmon Springer, KOHU’s pioneer radio personality and station owner. Among the many special items available for bid at the auction are a handmade quilt, a basket of homemade jams and jellies, an evening of piano music as well as many other items generously donated by area businesses. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for the start of the Silent Auction. At 6:30 p.m., Outwest Catering will serve a delicious dinner of salmon and beef. A no-host bar w ill also be available. Following dinner, the public is invited to join in the Oral Auction of exceptional items such as weekend trips, led by auctioneer Sandy Gross. Tickets for the evening’s event cost $20 per person and include dinner and the opportunity to attend the Silent Auction. Groups or businesses can reserve a full table for $200. According to Berle Nash, manager, "Besides enjoying a delicious dinner and a wonderful evening of entertainment, you will also be helping to support Inland Northwest Musicians. Our season typically includes more than twenty concerts presented in small rural communities throughout our nine-county region. This annual dinner auction is a major fundraiser for our organization.” Delanne Ferguson, President of the board of Inland Northwest Musicians, points out that, "This money helps pay for music purchase and rental, travel expenses, arid staff salaries, as well as rehearsal and performance hall rental.” Inland Northwest Musicians is made up of Five ensembles, including the Inland Northwest Orchestra, Inland Northwest Chorale, Willow Creek Symphony, Willow Creek Singers, and the newly formed Wallowa Valley Orchestra, providing opportunities for players and singers from beginning to advanced levels. A bluegrass gospel group is coming to town on May 13. The concert will be held at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church gym on 560 N. Minor Street at 3 p.m. The concert is free to the public. The group is made up of local artists to the Walla Walla Valley in Washington. They have been playing together for seven years. The instruments that the artists play are the banjo, mandolin, guitars and bass violin. Corrie and hear some great bluegrass gospel. RC&D to host the Making Farm Conservation Pay workshop The Columbia Blue- M ountain R esource C o n serv atio n and D evelopm ent C ouncil (RC&D) is hosting “Making Farm C onservation Pay: Exploring the Potential of Certification” workshops on May 16 in Pendleton and May 17 in Condon. The workshop will feature information about the c e rtific a tio n and marketing of value added crops through Food Alliance and Oregon Tilth. Featured speakers, Karl Kupers and Hans Kok, will share the success story of Shepherd’s G rain, w hich is a Food A llian ce c e rtifie d , su stain ab le farm ing operation. Farmers and ranchers in the Food Alliance program report p o sitiv e cu sto m er feed b ack , increased customer loyalty, new markets, sales increases, and price premiums (average 8 percent reported in 2004 survey). Oregon Tilth began in 1974 as an o rg a n iz atio n o f organic farm ers, g ard en ers and co n su m ers. T ilth o ffers e d u catio n al ev en ts th ro u g h o u t the state o f O regon, and pro v id es organic certification services to o rg an ic gro w ers, processors, and handlers internationally. Oregon Tilth is specifically designed as a c e rtific a tio n service for com m ercial producers of organic crops and livestock. The workshop in Condon will be held on May 17 from 8 -ll a.m. at the Gilliam County Fairgrounds. Plant Exchange to be held The H eppner Garden Club will be holding their annual Plant Exchange on Saturday, May 6 at the St. Patrick’s Senior Center in Heppner.
