41 decision to the visiting
Umatilla Vikings on Friday,
Jan. 6, the Heppner Mustang
JV boys came back with a
54-40 win over the Sherman
County Huskies on Satur
day, Jan. 7 in Moro.
The Vikings took a
10-6 lead after one and still
led 22-17 at the half despite
three 3-pointers from Justin
Delveaux. The M ustangs
narrowed the gap to 33-30
after three getting six points
from Andre Rauch and five
from Nacho Elguezabal, but
the Vikings hit eight of 12
free throws in the fourth to
hold off the Mustangs and
take the win.
D elveaux finished
with 11 points, with Rauch
adding 10 points.

VanCleave and Elguezabal
each had six points as the
Mustangs jumped out to a
14-7 lead after one and Van-
Cleave added eight more and

Mustang JV girls drop two

It was not a good
weekend on Jan. 6 and 7 for
the Heppner M ustang JV
girls as they lost at home to
the Umatilla Vikings 50-30
and were nipped on the road
at Sherman 23-22 to drop
their record to 6 and 5 on the
year.
The Vikings took a
9-6 lead after one, but the
M ustangs got five points
from Kaylee Helfrecht, four
from K ylie D oherty and
three from Kelsie Fox to get
within 20-18 at the half. The
Vikings came back in the
second half outscoring the
Mustangs 30-12 to win go
ing away.
H elfrecht finished
w ith seven p o in ts, w ith
Doherty adding six.
At S herm an, the
Huskies took an 8-6 lead af
ter one as Fox had four
points and they still led 10-9
at the half. The Huskies led
14-12 after three and held on
for the narrow win despite
four fourth-quarter points
from Stephanie Cutsforth
and three from Sarah Milner.
M ilner had five
points. Fox and Cutsforth
each finished with four and
Melissa West added three.
The Mustangs hit six
of 22 free throws compared
to the Huskies seven of 43.

up a home win over the Pilot
Rock Rockets by a score of
39-26 on Friday, Jan. 13 by
losing to the Culver Bulldogs
35-26 on Saturday in Culver.
The Mustangs, now 7 and 6
on the year, w ill be at
Weston-McEwen on Friday,
Jan. 20 before returning
home on Saturday to play
the Stanfield Tigers.
The Mustangs took
a 9-4 lead after one, getting
four points from Stefanie

Rockets and increased it to
24-9 at the half getting seven
points from Kvlie Doherty in
the second quarter. They still
led 31-15 after three and
made four fourth-quarter
points from Sarah Milner to
coast to the win.
