CHAM BER CHATTER
By Claudia Hughes
The Chamber’s
New Year Toast
Volunteers worked very hard
To put all the tree lights up.
Candy canes decked the
Chamber tree.
And there was coffee
in the cup.
Santa was pretty much
on schedule
And local stores
were stocked.
Had snowflakes
fallen on Christmas,
We would have been shocked.
The p o sters w ere
judged at the end o f the
school year and awards were
given in November. First
place winners were sent to
compete at the state level.
Bree Tolar, Irrigon Jr./Sr.
H igh School stu d en t,
received an award for the
most creative poster at the
state competition. “It’s the
first time the judges have
given such an award,” stated
a district spokesperson.
A
M SW CD
spokesperson said, “All the
students who participated
did a very good job this year
and w ere given the
opportunity to learn more
about conserving our natural
resources.”

Now 2006 approaches,
And as you greet
all those you meet,
Please share a
Chamber toast to Heppner
As you walk along the street.
First, to our members,
A prosperous New Year.
With their renewed support,
Chamber has nothing to fear.
Next, officers and volunteers
We wish you a peaceful rest.
You’ve earned it
as this past year,
You’ve given us your best.
And to our event sponsors
A special New Year salute.
The dollars you provide
Allow our programs
to bear fruit.
Mekayla Kindle
To our loyal shoppers
Who traveled the countryside,
You boosted our
local commerce
And enhanced our
Chamber pride.

Ed Carwithen from
John Day was at St. Patrick’s
Senior Center Friday, Dec.
23 to tune and repair the
Ampico Baby Grande that
was recently moved to the
center from Texas.
Ed started tuning
p ian o s in 1962 by first
reading a book. He then
moved to Panama in 1966
where his mentor taught him
the skill of piano tuning. He
moved back to John Day in
1992. Keith Kopp, who was
tuning pianos in the John
Day area, was so busy at the
time he turned over the piano
tuning portion of his business
to Ed.
