Fourteen members were present. The club is planning to meet with rep resen tativ es from the Heppner Booster Club to organize a joint fund raising dinner. The dinner, which is set for Saturday, Feb. 4, is being partially funded by a $ 1 ,5 0 0 d o n atio n from M orrow C ounty G rain G row ers. President Lynn Dee R am os set an organizational meeting date for Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m . at the L ex in g to n MCGG conference room. R am os, Dean R obinson, Betty Gray, Penny Krebs and Karen Padberg will represent the lone club on the planning committee. The club is planning a com m unity workday to paint the school cafeteria. Painting will begin at 9 a.m. on Dec. 16 and continue through the w eekend as needed. Volunteers, who are asked to bring paint supplies, are needed for this school improvement project. The new popcorn popper purchased by the club for concessions cannot be used on a standard outlet. Superintendent Browning w ill take bids on the electrical work to see if new wiring costs are feasible for the club. Del LaR ue w ill investigate possible track storage options. The club received a $ 1,000 grant from Walmart to help offset costs. It was agreed money received from the recycling club income, and requests to use the money be presented to the clu b at re g u la r meetings. Laurel Cannon, Betty Gray and Wayne Hams are doing the recycling work w ith the a ssista n c e o f Collier’s Market. The Cardinal sport schedule poster preliminary work is complete and the material has been sent to the publisher. The community calendars are also in the process of being published and should be available by the new year. T he B ask etb all Bonanza will be Dec. 2 and 3 with Riverside, Mac High and Enterprise joining the lone team s. Both ju n io r varsity and varsity teams will play over the weekend. The clu b is in ch arg e o f concessions and welcomes volunteers to help in the kitchen and/or donate pies and cakes. Anyone willing to help should contact Arlynda G ates at 4 2 2 -7 5 3 4 . W heatland will sponsor a h o sp itality room for the referees and coaches. T each er L indsay Orem presented a request from the elementary staff for funds ($ 4 0 3 .5 0 ) to buy accelerated reading tests for the e lem en tary g rad es. S upport w as also asked ($280) for the monthly goal parties to reward students. The club voted to give the teachers $800 to purchase new quizzes. The Ramos, LaR ue and M cE llig o tt fa m ilies and W heatland Insurance offered to sponsor monthly reward parties and suggested the teachers seek to fund further parties. The clu b w ill sponsor a congratulatory ad in the H ep p n er G azette Times for the success of the Cardinal volleyball team, which finished second in the Big Sky East and played at the district tournament. The next meeting of Cardinal Booster Club will be Monday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. at the school library. Preparations being made for Artifactory M em bers w ill be selling their arts and crafts item s at S a tu rd a y ’s Artifactory craft fair at the M orrow county Fairgrounds, Nov. 19 from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. Mary Ella Johnson will be selling her crocheted rugs made from cotton and w ool o f v ario u s sizes. S hirley M cN ary w ill be sellin g her beadw ork. Bobbie Angel will offer her hand painted ceramics. Art on fe a th ers and a new painting combination will be offered by Molly Day. These three stories are fictional adventures that take place in ancient Egypt. They are about a young Princess, ‘Tepi’, her brother. Prince ‘N ek h i’ and their many exploits throughout Egypt. In actual history they were real people; Queen A h h o tep and K ing SequenenreT ao II.Q ueen A h h o tep w as the only ancient E gyptian fem ale known to have received the medal of valor called T h e Order of the Fly’ for bravery on the battlefield. It is the opinion of some Egyptologists that she actually led troops to quell a rebellion in southern Upper Egypt while the King fought the threatening Hyksos in the northern Lower Egypt. This medal was found in the tomb of Queen Ahhotep when it was discovered and can be seen in the Cairo Museum. The author has lived h er life in O regon, graduating from both grade and high school in Gold Beach, Oregon, where she was raised on a small ranch. She now lives in Heppner, O regon.
