We finished our season once again with District Champion ship and Runner Up titles for both our girls’ and boys’ teams. We would like to thank all those that supported our car wash and pop can drive. Special thanks to Les Schwab for let ting us use their facilities. We also want to thank the Booster Club, Elks C lub, A thletic Alumni and Emergency Man agement for giving us opportu nities to earn money for the New Track Renovation Project. The work experiences are great for the kids, and it allowed us to turn in $2800 towards a track lane. Some of you may not be aware that we are just about ready to lay the final layers of rubberized asphalt to complete our new tract of Heppner Jr./ Sr. High School. We are very grateful to the many ranchers, farmers, businesses and indi viduals from here and abroad, that have supported our project with tremendous financial con tributions. Many have given from the heart, to see that this track renovation benefits our students, athletes and commu nity members. Our track facil ity at HHS has been unfit for ate for PE classes, community, business and health care use. The track will incorporate personalized signature lanes: examples - Padberg, Butter Creek, Heppner/Willow, Lex- ington/Sand Hollow, Ruggs, Kilkenny, and HHS Booster Club. The donors from these areas have stepped up to take ownership of the lanes. We have taken great strides to get to this point in the project, and still need financial assistance to meet all our objectives. There’s still room to buy into a lane. Most of the donations came through letter correspondence, and we want to include anyone that wishes to participate in this fund raiser. I’d like to also thank the 16 State Champion Track families for taking part in the funding for their athletes. Concrete bar riers will be stenciled at the edge of the track, and Booster Club is going to help with a new State Champion board for the gym. Our whole community can take great pride in seeing this track after 30 years get the fin ished surface it should have had long ago. On behalf of my Jr. High Track team, we thank all of you that have given so un conditionally. Without you, we would still be using the same old track this season. A Shamrock Dash or Lep rechaun Run, come March, could be in the works! A complete list of donors will be published soon. It’s not too late for anyone wishing to donate. You may send to: Heppner High School Track Project, P.O. Box 67, Heppner, OR 97836. Thank you, Susan Hisler Head Jr. High Track Coach __________________ 9-28-lc and ask for donations. We all wish Kelly the very best. Kaedene Bailey, and the Parents of the Class of 2002 9-28-lc The members of Heppner Volunteer Fire and Rescue would like to thank the com m unity for the support, prayers, donations and respect that was given to us, as we mourned the death of our broth er firefighter, Darren Bradford. A special thanks goes to the three fire departments who brought equipm ent and watched guard over our com munity while we attended Dar ren’s funeral service in Unity. Our thanks to: Del and Marty from Boardman Fire, Rick and Jess of Hermiston Fire, and Dean and Bo from Stanfield Fire. Your gift gives meaning to the words “the brotherhood of firefighters”. We were honored to provide a firefighter’s service for Dar ren. We could not have accom plished our task without the help of the Oregon State Fire Marshall’s office, Oregon Fire C h ie f’s A ssociation, John Fowler - Chief of Pendleton Fire, Jim Steams - Chief of Hermiston Fire, Marc Rogel- stadt - Chief of Boardman Fire, Sam and family, Pat Sweeney and the Heppner Post Office. Thank you for your support, advice, music, donation of equipment and the flag. The Morrow County Sher iff’s office played a special part in the success of the service. We We have great fire protection now in the south end of Mor row County. The way the fire districts cooperate with each other makes short work of a fire. In a recent fire on my place, there was equipment from lone, Heppner and Lexington and probably 25 firefighters. Thanks to everyone who had a hand in it. Ed Hunt 9-28-lp I would like to thank every one who donated meat, des serts, cash and time to help with the benefit dinner for Kelly Paullus last Friday night. Thanks to the generosity of the good people of Heppner, we were able to send some cash Kelly’s way. Special thanks to the crew, Judy Barber, Angie Hanson, JoyceKay Hollomon, Nancy Gorham, the Heppner Booster Club, and Tim Adams.
