Help seniors by donating to Housing Authority To the Editor: We have been following the articles and letters about the current situation at the St P a t’s Senior Center Apartments, and we agree that it is the re sp o n sib ility of, and o p p o rtu n ity for, the community to make certain that this facility is available to our seniors today, and long into the future So, we are asking all th at are financially able to join us in making a donation to the Heppner Housing Authority, earmarking that donation to go towards the St. Patrick’s A partm ents m aintenance and repair, in o rd e r to minimize the rent increases (This is a charitable donation and can be claimed on your 2005 tax form s. Your donation should be sent to city h all.) We are very confident that the housing authority board and senior center board will be doing all that they can to keep the rent increases to a minimum We would also like to volunteer to help with any work party that would keep operational costs down. We are sure that there is major cost when a resident moves and an apartment needs to be read ied fo r the next occupant A re th e re any p a in te rs and handym en/ women out there that would join us in letting the center know that they are available to donate their efforts to the cause? We know many o f the current residents and we want them to know that we treasure them as friends and members o f our community. (s) Pat and John Edmundson Heppner New emission standards wrong for Oregon - , ..... John Bowles and K nsten Pickles John Bowles and Kristen Pickles, both Heppner, announce their upcoming marriage this Saturday, June 18, 2005, at 3 p.m. at the Heppner United Methodist Church A reception will follow at the Heppner Elks Club. Friends and family are invited to attend Kristen is the daughter o f Pati Wynn, Hermiston, and John Wynn, Kennewick, WA John is the son o f Jimmy and Ida Bowles, Heppner Both are employed with the M orrow County Sheriff’s Office Engagement McCabe-Turner I am w ritin g to strongly register my concern for the potential change in air em issio n s sta n d a rd s for Oregon based on existing standards in California. I am a registered geologist in Oregon and California and an environmental consultant who has lived and worked in C alifo rn ia u n d er th e ir existing Regional Air Quality Boards. One o f the most critical aspects o f air quality management California Style is the aw esom e de-facto overlay it creates on future land use, vehicle c o sts, commercial and industrial development and even what you as an individual can and c a n ’t do on y o u r ow n property. C alifo rn ia has areas where stringent air p o llu tio n co n tro l w as appropriate. It also has areas where the controls instituted are unnecessary Let’s not make Oregon one o f those one-rule-fits-all areas where California type oppression via air emissions control is ad o p ted for the sake o f political response to hard line enviro-w hackos who know not what they preach. Oregon does not have air pollution problems outside o f some limited basins in stagnant days in mid winter and late summer. In fact our air quality has been steadily improving over the past 25 years. Just ask anyone who lived in the Eugene or Salem areas what the air was like in the ’60s and ’70s in the summer months. We cannot afford to handicap o ur econom ic g ro w th in O regon w ith stan d ard s th a t w ere developed for an entirely different time, place and meteorological setting Let’s lead ourselves to a smart and stab le econom y and environment and let those who would make Oregon into California take their efforts to a place where they may be appropriate. G o v e r n o r Kulongoski, drop SB-344 If you choose not to, I encourage our legislators to do what is right for Oregon and kill SB-344 and this effort at de-facto control of our economy and lives.
