The winner o f that game will play the loser o f Stanfield-Sherman County for the number two seed to the O SA A /U S B ank/Les Schw ab T ires S tate Tournament After falling behind 1-0 on a solo home run, the Mustangs came back with a vengeance as Jode Coil and Josh Gutierrez singled and Nick Christman reached on an error to load the bases. Kory Paullus scored tw o with a double and Quinn Peck followed that up with a home run to make it 5-1. Dan Basile singled, M att McCabe doubled, Coil had an RBI single, Gutierrez had an RBI single, Christman again reached on an error and Paullus and Basile each had RBI singles as they took a 13-1 lead b efo re the Rangers finally got the third out. The Rangers came back with a run in the top of the second, but the Mustangs answered with two more as C oil singled, G u tie rre z dou b led and C hristm an scored them with a single A two-run home run M ustangs left no do u b t about the outcome with a five-run bottom half o f the third. McCabe singled and came around on a Sloan Keithley home run Kyle Carlson reached on an error, Coil was hit by a pitch, Christman walked to load the bases and Paullus cleared them with a double to make it 20-4. Carlson pitched the final three innings in relief of Gutierrez to pick up the win Paullus led an 18-hit attack by going three for four with two doubled and six RBI with Coil going three for three with a double and four runs scored McCabe went three for three with a double and two runs scored Basile went two for three and scored twice Gutierrez went two for four and scored three times and Christman scored three runs and had two RBI Peck had a home run and three RBI, Keithley had a home run and two RBI and Carlson scored twice. All but two o f the Mustangs who batted had a least one hit. The Stanfield Tigers had scored two runs in the bottom o f the seventh to beat the Huskies 3-2 and tak e the d istrict championship The Rockets took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning and it held up until the third when the M ustangs finally got going Gutierrez singled, Nick C hristm an walked, Kory Paullus had an RBI single, C hristm an scored on a wild pitch, Dan B asile w alked and M att McCabe scored two more with a double to give the Mustangs a 4-2 lead The Rockets came back to score one run in the sixth and one in the seventh to tie it up and set up the dramatic ending Keithley reached on an error and with two out. The Huskies scored four runs in the bottom o f the sixth to take a 10-8 lead, but again the M ustangs came back as M cCabe singled, Keithley walked, Coil was hit by a pitch and Gutierrez singled to score two and tie the game at 10-10. It stayed that way until the ninth when the Mustangs broke the game open M cC abe w alked, Keithley singled, Carlson walked, Coil and Gutierrez each had two RBI singles, Paullus reached on an error, Peck reached on another error, B asile w alked as Paullus scored on a wild pitch and McCabe scored two more with a single to make it 18-10. Coil went the final two innings, striking out two and giving up one hit to pick up the win. Gutierrez started and went five innings, giving up six runs on six hits, while striking out five Gutierrez went four for six w ith fo u r RBI McCabe went three for five with three RBI and scored three runs, Coil went two for six with four RBI, Christman w ent tw o for six w ith a double, Paullus had two RBI and scored tw ice, Basile scored three runs and had two RBI and Keithley scored three runs Heppner 5.
