Resource Conservation and Development Council • Morrow County Republican Committee P M for by Committee to Elect Joe Taylor The Heppner Mustang baseball team used 18 hits to roll past the Umatilla Vikings 18-0 in Umatilla on Tuesday, May 3 in Columbia Basin Conference play The Mustangs, 6-3 in the CBC and 13-5 overall, will be at Pilot Rock on Saturday, May 14 for a key doubleheader that will decide second and third in the CBC east with the Mustangs needing a sweep for second The Mustangs wasted no time at Umatilla, jumping all over the Vikings for six runs in the top o f the first Jode Coil led off with a single, stole second and scored on a Nick Christman single Quinn Peck reached on an error, Dan Basile and Kyle Carlson each had RBI singles and Sloan Keithley reached on an error to score another run Matt McCabe singled and Coil doubled to make it 6-0. They didn’t quit there as they kept up the pressure in the second when Christman walked, Kory Paullus and Peck singled, Basile reached on an error to score two and Carlson scored two more with a single to make it 10-0. They made it 11-0 in the third as Christman singled and scored on a double by Faullus The Mustangs put the game away in the fourth as Keithley singled, McCabe reached on an error, Coil scored them with a single, Josh Gutierrez walked, Christman scored two with a single, Paullus and Peck each had RBI singles and Matt Kenny hit a sac fly to score Paullus and make the score 17-0. They tacked on one more in the fifth when Nathan Kennedy walked and ended up scoring on a single by Christman. Meanwhile, Christman was cruising through four innings on the mound, giving up two hits, while striking out seven to pick up the win. Savings Bonds were awarded to the win ners Free women’s health check available through health department If you are between the age o f 50 and 64, you may qualify for a free women’s health check Women who qualify have a family income below 250 percent o f the federal poverty level, are w ithout health care insurance or underinsured The Oregon Breast and Cervical Cancer Program (BCC Program) offers the program through the Morrow County Public Health Department. Each year the BCC Program allocates funding to the health department for a certain number o f women’s health checks for women ages 40 to 64. Enrollees receive a health check examination, which includes a clinical breast exam, mammogram, pelvic exam, Pap test, blood pressure check, height and weight check, as well as time to ask their health care provider questions about other medical concerns. Your provider can perform these services if he agrees to participate in the BCC Program At this time there are three openings left for women between the ages o f 50 to 64 and will be available on a first come first serve basis. Services need to be completed before the fiscal year ends June 30, 2005. After July 1, enrollment will again include women ages 40 to 49. To find out if you qualify for a free annual and mammogram exam, contact the Morrow County Public Health Department at 676-5421. ALL NEWS AND ADVERTISING DEADLINE The Heppner Mustang baseball team swept the Hermiston Bulldog JVs 10-5 and 5-2 in Hermiston on* Thursday, May 5 in non-league action The Mustangs, now 15-5 overall and 6-3 in the Columbia Basin Conference, will be at Pilot Rock for their last regular season games with a key doubleheader beginning at 11a m The Mustangs -need a sweep o f the Rockets to move into second place in the CBC east division. The Mustangs scored a run in the top o f the first when Jode Coil led off with a single, Josh Gutierrez hit into a fielder’s choice, Nick Christman walked and Kory Paullus hit a sac fly to score Gutierrez The Bulldogs came back with a run in the bottom half to tie it, but the mustangs scored two in the second when Matt McCabe singled, Dan Basile reached on an error and Coil scored them with a triple They scored two more in the third when Christman . singled and scored on a hit and run single by Paullus, who ended up scoring later on a wild pitch to make it 5-1. In the fourth, Gutierrez, Christman and Paullus all singled and Gutierrez scored on a wild pitch to make it 6- 1. The Bulldogs scored three runs in the fifth to get within 6-4, but the Mustangs answered with a run in the sixth when Christman singled and scored on a double by Paullus. The Bulldogs scored a run in the bottom o f th e : sixth, but the Mustangs came back with three in the seventh • when McCabe singled and scored on a double by Basile,; Coil was intentionally walked and Gutierrez scored them ' with a bloop single to make it 10-5.
