TEN - Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, May 4,2005 Villahermosa to speak on gang issues Heppner Ranger ODFW to hold Over the Tee Cup OSU announces Sixteen ladies gath District recruits public meeting in Boardman and Irrigon winter term honor ered in beautiful sunny The Oregon Depart Jesus Villahermosa Canada about issues regard for YCC weather on April 26 for Over roll ment o f Fish and Wildlife will be speaking at the Riv ing gangs, and youth vio erside High School, Board- man, on May 11 starting at 7 p m and at Irrigon Jr/Sr High School on May 12 starting at 7 p m Communi ty members are strongly urged to come and hear what Villahermosa has to say re garding the gang issues in each of the communities and how community members can make a difference in their neighborhoods Villahermosa was in M orrow County several years ago and talked with law enforcement, school per sonnel and spoke at commu nity meetings He was very well received and has been asked to return to give an update on the present prob lems with gang graffiti, gang violence, and other problems communities and especially parents are facing due to the local youth’s involvement in gang activities He has been a depu ty with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department since 1981 He was the first certi fied Master Defensive Tac tics Instructor for law en forcement personnel in the state of Washington and has been on the Pierce County Sheriff’s S W A T Team since 1983 He has taught over 295,000 professionals across the United States and lence and has spoken to thousands o f students all over the country in motiva tional assemblies regarding themes o f choices, conse quences and respect A vari ety of radio and television talk shows including CBC radio in Canada and NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw have helped get his information to many V illaherm osa has written a gang reference guide for education profes sionals and is featured in nu merous videos covering top ics such as gangs, breaking up fights, use o f force issues and campus intruder con tacts Misthought provoking ideas are given with a hu morous note and will surely inspire those in attendance in believing that they can help in keeping their neighbor hoods safe The local Gang Task Force and the Central and Eastern Oregon Juvenile Justice Consortium, which Morrow County Juvenile Department is a member of are sponsoring this speaker Marriage License A pril 29: Richard Spencer Hamblin, 48, B oardm an and Lilia Vyacheslarovna Mezhova, 28, Boardman Four young people between the ages of 15 and 18 are being recruited by the Forest Service, Heppner Ranger District, for summer employment in the Youth Conservation Corps The work may include noxious weed removal, wildlife hab itat improvement, slash pil ing and trail maintenance The duration of the program will be six weeks from June 13, 2005 to July 22, 2005, or possibly up to eight weeks through Aug 5, 2005 if funding is available The pay will be the Oregon minimum wage rate of $7.25 per hour Applications will be accepted April 28 through May 18, 2005 until 2 p m Participants will be selected on a random basis on May 18 at 4 p m No previous experi ence is required Applicants must be 15 years old and not reach age 19 during the term of employment in the pro gram and have a social se curity number or have made application to obtain one Applicants must also obtain parental or legal guardian consent to enroll in the pro gram Applications may be obtained from the Forest Service in Heppner and lo cal high schools For more information, call 676-9187 would like to invite all inter ested people to attend a pub lic meeting on Tuesday, May 10 from 7-9 p m at the ODFW office in Heppner The office is located in the old Kinzua mill office at 54173 Hwy 74 in Heppner ODFW will also have a public meeting at the Fossil Community Center located at 401 4th Street in Fossil on Wednesday, May 11 from 7-9 p m The discussion will be about the proposed tag numbers for the 2005 big game seasons.
