Photo by Sandy M atthew s The Heppner High School girls’ softball team had a doubleheader against Nyssa on Saturday, April 9. The girls took a 4-3 win in their first game, but dropped the second game, 6-4. Heppner Dance Program to hold bake sale The Heppner Dance Program, which is a satellite program o f Performing Arts and H um anities of Hermiston, will be having a bake sale on Friday, April 15 beginning at 11 a m in front o f Central Red Apple The dance students are trying to raise money to help pay for large mirrors that will be installed in the fairground building where they practice For almost two years the students have been learning routines and p rac ticin g w ith o u t the benefit o f mirrors. The M orrow C ounty Fair and O regon Trail Pro Rodeo court will host their first annual Stick H orse R ound-U p. The festivities jump start at the Fair Pavilion on April 16 at 5 p.m with a Chili Feed. Once the stick horses are warmed up and signed up the action will kick start at 6 p.m , with three main events for all age groups These will include barrel racing, pole bending and bronc riding. Each has a $ l fee Each child receives a candy bag for participating A special auctipn will take place in a Calcutta format Ken Grieb will help ann o u n ce and run the au ctio n I f you have a favorite racer with a fast mount make sure to come down and support the racers through the auction Awards will also be available for best-dressed horse and rider. There will also be prizes and aw ard s for high point winners. This community fun “evening out” with the kids is sponsored by M orrow C ounty Fair and O TPR c o u rt. Q ueen Jessica W ainwright and Princess H eather Yocom designed this as a fundraiser to help su p p o rt th e ir trav elin g expenses They travel many miles with their horses and stay many weekends away from home to help promote and advertise our fair and rodeo The girls want to be more involved with brining our community together and su p p o rtin g th e children during their reign as queen and princess April 16 should be fun for kids o f all ages. It would be a great warm up for the W ranglers Riding Club that follows on April 17 at the rodeo arena Enjoy an evening o f fun with the kids and don’t forget that stick horse Taxes due April 15 S tate and federal taxes are due in the mail by Friday, April 15. Submis sions postmarked after April 15 will be considered late. It will run immediately after school June 7 and 8. It is open to grades 4-12. Grades 4-8 will go from 3:45-5:30 p.m. “ This should allow those kids to get to their baseball practice also” “We don’t want to conflict with those activities any more than possible,” said Grant “Hopefully the kids can have a chance to access all that is offered ” Grades 9-12 will start at 3:45 p m and go until 8 p.m. A coach’s clinic will be offered June 6. Anyone in te re ste d in coaching fo o tb all at any level is encouraged to attend The basketball camp conducted by Gordie James and s ta ff o f W illam ette University will be held June 13-14 Anyone interested in coaching basketball at any level is en co u rag ed to contact Coach McKinnis or C oach D ow dy for information Camp sessions begin June 13 and 14 times will be: 9 a m to 11 a m., g rad es 3-5; 12-3 p .m , grades 6-8; 5-8 p.m , grades 9-12. Session times and age groups will be published at a later date The volleyball clinic conducted by Tricia Wright and s ta ff o f W illam ette University will be held June 15. Camp will be June 16 and 17, with grades 9-12, 8 a m - 12 p.m and Elementary and Junior High from 1-4 p.m. Men’s Breakfast to be held Heppner Christian C hurch is h o stin g this month’s men’s breakfast on Sunday, April 17 at 8 a m.
