Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Obituaries Charlotte G. Britt C harlotte G. Britt, 90, of Condon, died Sunday, A pril 3, 2005, at her daughter’s home in Heppner. R ec ita tio n o f the rosary was held Tuesday, April 5 at St. John Catholic Church in Condon. A funeral m ass w as c e le b ra te d Wednesday, April 6, at the church, w ith concluding serv ice s and in term en t fo llo w in g at St. Jo sep h Cemetery in Condon. She was bom May 12, 1914, at Toledo, OH, to G erald and K atheryn Wambold Bums. She lived in Condon most o f her life. On Sept. 22, 1938, she married Ira L. Britt at Condon. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church. She en jo y ed her hom e, her fam ily, her grandchildren, entertaining and was an avid Mariners baseball fan. S urvivors include her daughters and sons-in- law, Barbara Couture and h u sb an d , D ean, of Hermiston, Mary Jo Brisbois and husband, R onnie, o f Heppner, Katheryn Haarstad o f Albany and son-in-law, Paul B ou ch ard ; 12 grandchildren and numerous g re a t-g ra n d c h ild re n and great-great-grandchildren; and siste r, A nna M arie Coffey o f Providence, RI. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ira, by a daughter, C harlene B ritt Bouchard, by her parents and by four brothers and two sisters. Sweeney M ortuary o f Condon is in charge o f arrangements. Carol Burkenbine Rogers C arol B urkenbine R ogers, 59, passed away March 29,2005 in Mesa, AZ at the home o f her sister, Claudia Sherman. E a ster Sunday, M arch 27, the fam ily members who were at her bedside had a live memorial for her, w hich she participated in. They sang, laughed some and cried. She w as w h eeled out in her wheelchair and was able to watch her granddaughters hunt Easter eggs. A graveside service w as held A pril 2 at W oodlaw n C em etery in Bremerton, WA. She was bom Aug. 31, 1945 in H ep p n er to Reese and Nina Burkenbine. She a tte n d ed sch o o l in H ep p n er th ro u g h the eleventh grade, then finished high school and graduated from Poulsbo, WA. She went on to attend business college and became a legal secretary for many years. She then ran her ow n b o o k k eep in g business until July 1999 at which time she became ill with MS and spent the rest of her life in a nursing home. She met and married Russell Applegate. They had two daughters, Michelle and Bemadine. On June 16, 1980 she married Nick Rogers. He had diabetes and was on dialysis. They both lived to g e th e r in the n u rsin g home, where they celebrated their 20th anniversary. He preceded her in death. She was an organist in St. C harles C hurch in P o u lsb o , WA and was treasurer at St. Andrew’s in Port Orchard. Survivors include her mother, Nina Harshman o f H ep p n er; d au g h ters, M ich e lle S ch o m ak er o f Renton, WA and Bemadine F lo res o f M esa, AZ; granddaughters, Christina, Amanda, twins, Briana and Brandy and Cassie; brothers, F orrie B u rk en b in e o f H ep p n er and A rth u r Burkenbine o f Hermiston; sisters, Joyce Pagen o f Penn V alley, CA and C lau d ia Sherman o f Mesa, AZ; aunts and uncles, Frances and Norman Griffin o f Salem, Stanley Cox o f Heppner, Marlene and Mike Gray of lo n e and C h ristin a Burkenbine o f Heppner; and n u m ero u s nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, N ick R ogers and by her father, Reese Burkenbine. Amy “Irene” Dalzell Amy “Irene” Dalzell, 95, o f Eugene, died March 30, 2005, o f age related causes. She attended high school in Eugene for tw o years and graduated from Condon High School in 1930. She married Arthur Dalzell on Oct. 5,1932. The couple spent most o f their lives farming in Morrow and Gilliam counties. Dalzell belonged to the G range and Pythian Sisters. She enjoyed reading, working puzzle books and bingo. Air Life o f Oregon is preparing for a change in leadership. On March 14, A ir L ife ’s new director, Michael Greene, arrived in Bend to begin his transition into the position that will be vacated when Vem Bartley retires on May 1. Greene served most recently as program director for Air Life-HealthOne in Denver, CO. He has spent the last 20 years in the medical arena, working as a flight nurse as well as an admi ni s t r at or in the air ambulance industry. In 2003, Greene was named Program Director of the Year by the Association of Air Medical Services- a prestigious, national award that Air L ife ’s outgoing director, Vem Bartley, also received in 1997. “We’re very honored to have Michael joining our team," Bartley said. “He has a long history o f excellent w ork leading a program that’s very similar to ours, and I know he’ll do a great job continuing Air L ife’s tradition o f excellence.” The lead ersh ip transition will cont i nue through May 1, when Bartley officially retires. For now, Greene is getting to know the crew s and communities Air Life has served for the last tw o decades. “I’m still a bit in awe o f everything Air Life has accomplished over the years,” he said. “I’ve heard success story after success story and I ’m l ooking forward to really immersing myself in the program.” Air Life o f Oregon is a m edically-em ergent air ambulance service with a helicopter base in Bend and fixed-w ing bases in both Bend and La Grande.
