members competed recently
in the annual Awana Bible

contest included some 40
teams from several churches
in Richland, K ennew ick,
Pasco, Yakima, Walla Walla
and M ilton-Freew ater, as
well as the three local teams
sponsored by L exington

one to two club members.

Awana handbooks for boys
and girls in the third through
six grades The contestants
started out with multiple-
choice questions about the
B ible Then, the m ore
d ifficult speed quizzing
section included reciting
passages o f Scripture from
memory, word perfect and
knowing other Bible facts.

In the third through
fifth grade girls’ division,
Kellie Nelson, fourth grade,
and Stephanie Schuler, fifth
grade, both o f H eppner,
claimed first place honors in
the Book One competition
They received individual
golden medallions for their
efforts and a team plaque as
well.
Awana Bible Club

is for kindergarten to second
grade and the “T and T”

cool.” Yes, writing was fun

Oregon Girls’ State session

University in Salem from
June 12-18

juniors to learn the inner

p o litical p ro c e sses, law
m aking, citizen sh ip and
patriotism

acceptance includes being a
current member o f the junior
class or the equivalent if
home schooled, have an
interest in government and
possess a desire to develop
le ad e rsh ip sk ills and
confidence while building a
lastin g fo u n d a tio n for
success in their personal and
professional lives.

School and will be accepted
through March 28, 2005.

be Friday and Saturday, Feb.

The bride-elect, daughter o f Phil Greif o f Elgin and
Vicki G reif o f Gresham, is a former resident o f Heppner
and a 2000 graduate of Gresham High School Following
high school, she attended Oregon State University,
transferring to Linfield College-Good Samaritan School
o f Nursing, Portland, in 2002, where she graduated with a
bachelor o f science in nursing (BSN) and is a registered
nurse in the operating room at Emanuel Hospital in
Portland
The groom-elect, son o f Jeff and Cheryl Burleigh
o f McKinney, TX, is a 2001 graduate o f Reynolds High
School in Troutdale, OR and attended Oregon State
University transferring to Mt Hood Community College
in Gresham in 2002 upon acceptance to the surgical
technology program, which he will graduate from in June
2005
The couple plans to wed on Friday, May 20, 2005
at 7 p m , at Montgomery Park in Portland with a reception
to follow
