Obituaries__ Edwin Albert Cutting Edwin Albert Cutting, 90, of Portland, died on Feb 13, 2005 A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2005 at 2 p.m., at Oak Grove United Methodist Church, 14700 S.E Rupert Drive, Oak Grove, OR 97267 Cutting was born July 7, 1914 at Byron, MN to Fred Everstine and Mary Inez King Cutting He attended elementary and high school at Byron, MN. He then attended the University of Minnesota School of Agriculture- St Paul, from 1932 to 1934 and the College of Agriculture in 1934-35. He graduated second in his class from the School of Agriculture He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota in 1965, with a major in history and minors in psychology and art and attended Garrett Theological Seminary in Evanston, IL, from which he obtained a master of divinity degree in 1965. He married Doris Emily Whitcomb on Aug 21, 1937. Active in scouting in his younger days, Cutting was the first person to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout in Boy Scout Troop Number 42 Cutting worked for his parents at Cutting’s Nursery and farmed at Byron from 1932 to 1954. The Cuttings farmed and operated a greenhouse at West Concord, MN from 1954 to 1963. He served United Methodist churches in Tygh Valley and Dufur (1965-1969), Heppner and Echo (1969-1976) and Coquille (1976-1980). He served on the Board of Ordained Ministry in the Oregon-Idaho Conference of the United Methodist Church. He expressed his love of the countryside and outdoor life through his oil painting and watercolors His interest in storytelling and family history was preeminent in the 12 books on family history and his life that he wrote in retirement His greatest satisfaction as a pastor was ministering people at the time of death of loved ones and in their times of grief He tutored grade school students for nine year He was involved in Boy Scouts for 26 years, the Grange for 48 years, 4-H for five years and garden clubs for 21 years He was a prolific reader of history, geology and theology He kept a diary for 76 years showing her Morgan; she always had a Pekingese dog, invariably named Baby The Brewers moved to the Caribbean in 1990, a lifelong dream of Mr. Brewer’s, while Mrs. Brewer always said she hated salt water, it was just too sticky. Mr Brewer bought into a dive shop and Mrs Brewer stumbled into a business of her own She and her friend, Linda, started a maintenance business for rental properties They had numerous adventures building an international business Later she and her daughter and sister started a successful online reservation business It was said she was successful due to her ability to deal with all sorts of unusual situations and people. The Brewers always had at least one of her brothers of sisters living with them over the years She was said to be generous with her resources and time and that she impacted and influenced all those who knew her After being diagnosed with breast cancer, she did not once complain on ask “why me?” She took it in stride, determined to beat it. She researched all of The treatments and understood fully what the risks were and did not hesitate to become involved in her treatment. Survivors include her husband, Don, her father, Jim Wilcox; daughters, Sydney Reagan and husband Thomas and Leslie Brewer; granddaughters, Scarlet and Scout; grandson, Hambone; sisters, April Aldred, Juanita Lusher and Carmen Timmins; brothers, Jim Wilcox and Tom Wilcox; and many other relatives. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ramona Lienkaemper Chapel in Vale is in charge of arrangements. One of his paintings was selected by the University of Minnesota at the Town and Country Art School for permanent exhibit. His warmth, wisdom and humor will be greatly missed by family and friends His positive outlook on life and his caring ways will never be forgotten His body was donated to the University of Oregon Medical School for medical education in accordance with his wishes.
