It was suggested the money also be used to help buy paint for the cafeteria Lynn Dee Ramos is checking paint prices and quality. The sixth graders are selling Cardinal banners to hang on the o u tsid e o f homes The banners can be purchased at W heatland Insurance, at the school or by contacting one o f the sixth graders The booster club helped fund that project The club expressed their appreciation for Helen Heideman making pies for the B asketball Bonanza, William Bergstrom for his maintenance help and for Booster Club met Monday, Dec 6 at the school library Thank you notes were read from the high school volleyball and fo o tb all team s. Four applicators were tampered with and one truck cap was off. MCSO received a rep o rt from a caller in Heppner that a house was broken into w ith the basement door broken in. MCSO, lone EMTs received a report from a caller in lone that her 18 month old was locked in her car. The car has electric locks. The locksmith was contacted MCSO received a report from a caller in Irrigon o f a hit and run that occurred last night. There was a lot of damage. A subject was out o f the vehicle and had m inor injuries There was also a vehicle/field fire Another caller reported an additional motor vehicle accident in the same location between and motorcycle and camp trailer CPR was initiated A patient was transported to Good Shepherd Medical Center in Hermiston photo by Sandy Matthews Heppner coach Mark Dowdy coaches the girls varsity team at Pirate game By Rick Paullus A 16-8 advantage in the fourth quarter helped the Heppner Mustang girls to a 39-36 win over the visiting R iverside P irates on Saturday, Dec. 11 in a non league basketball game. The Mustangs hit eight o f 12 free throws in the fourth to help them hang on and improve to 2 and 1 on the year The Mustangs host the M ustang Tourney on Friday and Saturday, Dec 17 and 18 before playing their First C olum bia Basin Conference game at Culver on Tuesday, Dec. 21. Sarah Price scored five points in the first as the teams were tied at 6-6 after one and Susan Southworth had four p o in ts in the second, but the Pirates took an 18-13 lead at the half. Southworth scored off a drive and Megan Orr scored o ff a pass from Shanna Rietmann, but the Pirates still led 24-17. Terra Wilson and Orr hit short jumpers to narrow the game to 24-21 and after four straight by the Pirates, Orr hit a ju m p er to get the Mustangs to within 28-23 after three. The Mustangs came out firing in the fourth as Price hit two free throws, Orr scored off a pass from Rietmann and Lyndi Patton hit a jum per to give the Mustangs a 29-28 lead After the Pirates tied it, Orr scored off a drive, but Riverside came back with five straight to take a 34-31 lead with three minutes left. Wilson and Rietmann each hit one o f two free throws and Orr got a steal and lay-in and Price hit two free throws to give the Mustangs a 37-34 lead with 1:14 left. The Pirates hit two free throws with 15 seconds left, but Rietmann hit two to make it 39-36 with 10 seconds left and the Mustangs held on as a shot at the buzzer fell short Orr led the Mustangs with 12 points, four steals and three rebounds, with S outhw orth adding nine points and six rebounds.
