Also on the program was the unveiling and dedication of a new plaque (see page 3) and a talk by Chris Brown, whoes family has had many members serve in the armed forces. Also on the program was Samarra Van Dorn singing patriotic music, Keith Brudevold singing Danny Boy, Jerry Breazeale reading the names of Morrow County war dead and Bob Taylor and the VFW raising the flag at the park in Heppner. There was also a fly over by Doug Drake who filled in when the helicoper flight from Pendleton was unable to make it. HHS honors veterans at Remember Day celebration VOL. 123 NO. 46 10 Pages Wednesday, November 17, 2004 lone honors veterans Morrow County, Heppner, Oregon Legion and Auxiliary to hold Thanksgiving dinner The A m erican Legion and Auxiliary will be holding a T h anksgiving dinner on Monday, Nov. 22 at 6:30 p.m., at St Patrick’s Senior Center. The dinner is open to all L egion and Auxiliary members. Turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy will be furnished. A m eeting will follow the dinner. Edwards elected Lexington mayor John Edwards was elected as the m ayor o f Lexington with 68 votes. Results for this race were inadvertently left out o f last week’s results. All election results Robert Baker of the lone American Legion salutes the flag will become official when during Veterans Day services last Thursday. Conrad Tworek certified by the M orrow County Clerk on Nov. 22. holds the flag as part of the honor guard. HES working to actively engage students By Daye Stone, Vice-Principal of Heppner Schools As the m onth o f November begins, it’s fitting to write about how things are going here at Heppner Elementary. As many o f you know by now, it is my first year as a school a d m in istra to r here in Heppner and we just finished our first quarter o f the 2004/ 2005 school year The community is inviting and our schools are a place o f student engagem ent and success. Some great things have been happening at HES. P a re n t/te a c h e r conferences have come and gone and it was great to see many o f the parents during this time. Parents should know that one o f our priorities here at HES is to communicate information to our patrons We believe that this effort will enable every Principal Wade Smith (left) gives a welcome address to area veterans at the annual Heppner Junior and Senior High School Remembrance Day last Wednesday at the High School. A large group o f v eteran s atten d ed the R em em brance Day observance last Wednesday at the high school. The program is o v erseen by teacher Ginger Bowman, but students including program director Kyle Huddleston, did all o f the organizing and work on the project. The band and chorus was on hand to sing America the Beautiful, and the guest speaker was Major Thomas Lingle who spoke about honor and duty to ones country especially during this time o f war on terror. Also a treat this year w as a p ictu re video p resen tatio n , put on by students Robert McElligott and Josh Lankford, honoring many o f the local veterans. DVDs o f the presentation are available at the high school. Also given out this year was a color picture album of all the veterans who atten d ed last y e a r’s rem em brance S tudents Jenna Bowman and Baillie Keithley sold ball shots at the golf course to raise the $310 to pay for the booklets. Due to a desire o f m aintaining this level o f The 60th annual meeting o f Columbia Basin Electric Cooperative, Inc., will be held at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church Hall in Heppner on Thursday, Nov. 18. Registration will begin at 4 p m , with dinner at 5:15 p m and the business meeting beginning at 6 p.m. The purpose for the meeting is to elect four directors and for the transaction o f any other business. Current directors include: Lori Anderson- president; no vice-president, Jerry Gentry- secretary/ treasurer; Bill Jaeger, Raymond H arrison, Jerry Hollomon, Loyal Bums, Jr, Todd Lindsay and C. Edwin Asher.
