Inland N orthw est Health Services (IN H S ) was awarded the grant to expand live interactive EMS training p rogram s th ro u g h its N orthw est T eleH ealth network. The INHS T eleH ealth n etw o rk o p e ra tes a video conferencing network that consists o f 55 hospitals and clinics. N o rth w e st TeleHealth will connect to other video conferencing system s in A laska and Oregon to reach the entire region. Renee Anderson will serve as the project director for the REMSTEP program She has developed considerable knowledge and understanding about rural EMS agencies during the planning for this program and also has extensive past experience w orking with rural hospitals and EMS agencies. Anderson was the INHS lead in preparing the R egional H o sp ital Preparedness Plan for the W ashington State Department o f Health. “Rather than facing the expense o f flying EMS crews to larger cities for advanced training, rural fire fighters, param edics and EMT’s will now be able to drive to a local school or hospital to take advantage of the latest em ergency response, injury prevention and safety aw areness inform ation,” said INHS C h ief O perating O fficer Nancy Vorhees Over the next few months, Anderson will work closely with EMS training co n ten t p ro v id ers, four TeleHealth netw orks, 52 educational sites, four state EMS offices and multiple E d u catio n al Service D istricts and schools to implement the REMSTEP program Major tasks will include d e term in in g enhancements needed to the current EMS Live at Night format, assessing training needs for coming years and securing a p p ro p ria te speakers as well as assuring CME certification Anderson will also be working with Doug Weeks o f INHS to design and implement an evaluation process for the REM STEP program and with Dr Jim Nania to assure that program co n ten t supports CME certification As part o f the implementation process, a coalition will be created, consisting of two key EMS representatives from each region, to discuss specialized education needs for the regions, current program co n ten t and p articip an t satisfaction This coalition will be fa c ilita te d by Anderson and Ray Tansey of Spokane County EMS and Trauma Council Seventy five percent of funding for the program comes from federal dollars, while twenty-five percent will be pro v id ed by participating agencies. In addition to in te ra ctiv e m eetings, TeleHealth also affords rural communities with access to m edical sp ec ia lists and education on subjects such as diabetes management and o th e r ch ro n ic illnesses. Nurses, physicians and other p ro v id ers in rem ote communities are also able to take part in refresher courses hosted by universities and community colleges while they remain in their host communities. INHS is a non-profit corporation sponsored by Deaconess Medical Center, H oly Fam ily H o sp ital, Sacred H eart M edical Center and Valley Hospital and M edical C en ter in Spokane, WA, to provide collaborative health care services for Spokane and the surrounding region. Rietmann”, has been determined to be a hoax The letter, w hich criticized incumbent M.C S heriff Verlin D enton in favor o f sheriff’s candidate Ken M atlack , w as not written by John Rietmann of Olden Lane in lone The real John R ietm ann told the Gazette-Times that he did not write the letter, opposed the message of the letter and said that he had contacted the M.C SherifTs Office He also stated that his middle name does not start with the letter ‘L*. The letter included John Rietm ann’s correct phone number, but, according to M C Sheriff s deputy Randy Rayburn, the address on the letter was bogus It listed an address on Gooseberry Rd The in cid en t is u n d er investigation by the Morrow C ounty S h eriff's O ffice.
