Heppner Daycare is a non-profit organization. All proceeds from the dinner and auction will go to the Daycare and Preschool. Noted as one of the oldest PRCA Rodeos in Oregon for the past 82 years, the Oregon Trail Pro Rodeo fe a tu re s m ore than 200 PRCA cow boys and cowgirls competing in seven world championship events. T hese men and wom en compete for awards such as the Mike Currin Memorial buckle, added bonus money for fastest time and bounty m oney is alw ays an attraction for the bull riders. OTPR Features the rough and rugged action of saddle bronc and bareback riding, the skill and precision of calf roping and steer wrestling, the c o lo r and speed of cowgirls’ barrel racing and the heart stopping danger and thrills of the w orld’s most favorite and dangerous event... bull riding. The owner, Donny Hutsell, has received many national titles with his stock such as the famous Skoal’s Spring Fling, Unforgiven and Copenhagen Two Spot. Hutsell promises a preview of these great animals. They will be at the Oregon Trail Pro Rodeo to meet the talent of w orld fam ous contestants. You are down close and personal to preview the best stock and riders in the world. Each w ild and western performance at the BENEFIT DINNER Oregon Trail Pro Rodeo begins with Muttin Bustin’ 30 minutes prior to each grand entry. The rodeo officially starts with the grand entry of the Rodeo Bandits and Rodeo court members. The chutes open for the first performance at 7 p.m. on Friday, August 20. D on’t miss out on the popular “Call Your Dog Contest” during the Friday night performance. Saturday starts with the fair and rodeo parade followed by the main show on Saturday, Aug. 21. This will begin with grand entry at 1:15 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 22, w ill bring local rodeo en tertain m en t w ith the Morrow County Jack-Pot Rodeo. O th er featu res include live music following the PRCA shows and a good time is assured in the “Spur Em ” barn. Live e n tertain m en t, daytim e family fun and fair activities will run during the days and into the evening. The cow boy was, and still is the o rig in al A m erican p ro fessio n al athlete and some o f the PRCA ’s best w ill be in action at the Oregon Trail Pro Rodeo in Heppner. The Friends of the Library will be holding a book and bake sale on July 31 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., du rin g the C eleb rate Heppner festivities, in front of the Heppner Library. “This year the book d o n atio n s have been wonderfully overwhelming. We have double the number of books that we had last year and a wider variety w hich in clu d es how -to books, m edical books, b io g rap h ies, travel and books about many different countries as well as a huge selection of mysteries and rom ances,” said a FOTL spokesperson. The book sale money is used for library needs that do not have budgeted funds. As a current example of previous books sale fund use, the Friends of the Library commissioned Bob DeSpain to build a new sign, which includes the fact that the library is now a branch of the Oregon Trail Library system. The new sign was in stalled in a concrete pad early in June. If you would like to become a member of the Friends of the Library group, you may do so by getting an ap p lic atio n from Barb Orwick or Margaret Flaherty at the library, filling it out and returning it to them. “We can always use new m em bers w ith new ideas, so jo in us in supporting the library,” said a FOTL spokesperson. 3 one 3 basketball tournament On Saturday, Aug. 7, a three one three basketball tournament will be held at the lower elementary school basketball court from 2-6 p.m. There will be four different categories: junior high girls, junior high boys, high school girls and high school boys. There is no entry fee and prizes will be aw arded to the w inning teams of each category.
