Accident on Hwy. 207 sees one injured Local man called to active duty At 6:43 a.m ., on Sunday, July 25, the Morrow C ounty S h e riff’s O ffice received a report of a one- vehicle rollover on Hwy 207 at milepost 18. One subject appeared to be trapped and the driver was missing. The subject at the scene sustained injuries and was transported to Pioneer M em orial H ospital in Heppner and later airlifed to another hospital. The d riv e r was located at his residence in Kimberly with no apparent injuries, according to Sheriff Verlin Denton. The incident is still under investigation and the names of the subjects have not been released. It is, how ever, b eliev ed that alcohol was involved. Bliss, TX, training for three months in the desert and will then go to Ft. Polk, LA, for a month before heading overseas. Q u alls, who also works for Bank of Eastern O regon, and his wife Doashea, have two children Sydney, 5 and Hayden, 3. He is the son of Rosco and Kay Rene Qualls of Heppner. Celebrate Historic Heppner with weekend activities A hom em ade pie contest will be held Friday, July 30, as part o f the Celebrate Historic Heppner festivities. Pies should be taken to John’s Place by 1 p.m. Judging will be held at 2 p.m. F irst place w ill receiv e a $100 g ift certificate; second place will receive a $50 gift certificate; and third place will receive a g ift b ask et. F irst and second place prizes are d o n ated by S h errell Insurance and the third place prize is donated by Bank of Eastern Oregon. Auction of the pies w ill follow the evening BBQ, which begins at 5:30 p.m. in City Park. •N Everyone is invited to come celebrate Heppner and its heritage with a variety of activities Friday, July 30 through Sunday, Aug. 1. C elebrate H istoric Heppner will begin with sidewalk sales on Friday and the Heppner Hardware Hotdogs and BBQ Give-Away. The day will continue with a pie judging contest, plus look for those pies later in the evening at the Pie Auction. A Short Parade with Short People will be held at 11 a.m. The Shamrockettes, Heppner's new dance team will perform on Friday. The BBQ in the Park will be held at 5:30 p.m. Bank of Eastern Oregon is sponsoring the BBQ and Chamber members will do the “burger flipping.” Joe and Leanne Lindsay will provide entertainment. The evening will conclude with the Little McKay Creek Band and Street Dance from 8-11 p.m. Wheatland Insurance and Columbia River Processing sponsor the band and dance. Saturday, July 31 will open with the Friends of the Heppner Library Book and Bake Sale from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., in front of the library. There will also be a community wide Yard Sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. To be included on the Yard Sale map contact Alvin at (541) 980-2014. The evening will conclude with the 3rd annual “Dinner at the Cemetery” dinner theater presentation. Tickets may be purchased at the Bank of Eastern Oregon and the Chamber of Commerce.
