The lower meeting hall has been given a face-lift by local lady painters Darcy Coil and Kathy Britt. July 9, members will meet to clean the hall and a special meeting is planned for July 15 to d iscu ss summer activities. Shenanigans, a five member fiddle group from South Morrow County, is getting ready this week to depart on a two week trip to Ireland. The group has dreamed, planned and raised enough m oney (over $ 1O.(XM) during the past two years) to pay their expenses to attend a 6-day summer music school there, as well as spend a week traveling and sightseeing around the country. The S henanigans range in age from 12-14 years old and include Alex C arson, Kara Clay, Eric Jepsen, Kate Kendrick and Brynna Rust. They, along with director Peg Willis, will be taking their fiddles with them to Ireland and attending the Joe Mooney Summer School of Music located at D rum sham bo, C ounty L eitrim . D rum sham bo is a town smaller than Heppner, but every bed and breakfast in the town and neighboring villages will be helping to House som e 350 m usic students o f all ages from around the world who will arrive there to atten d a variety o f music classes from July 19-24. Courses taught include: fiddling, mandolin, flute, harp, banjo, uilleann pipes, tin whistle, accordion, concertina, vocal music and Irish dance. The students will audition the first day and be placed in an appropriate class for their ability level with one of six Celtic fiddle instructors. In addition to their classroom instruction each day, there will be recitals, lectures and concerts throughout the week, as well as just having fun g ettin g to g eth er to practice with each other and with new friends that they meet. The five Shenanigans members will each be accompanied by one parent, so counting their director Peg, there will be a total of eleven going on the trip. They will fly out of P o rtland on W ednesday noon, July 14 and land in Dublin the morning of July 15. Time in Ireland is 8 hours ahead. T hey will spend 3 days in D ublin taking in various sights such as m useum s and castles. Then they will travel to the m usic sch o o l, w hich is located in the north central part o f the country. Following the conclusion of their music instruction on Saturday, July 24, the group will visit the western coast area o f Irelan d . T heir itinerary includes a boat trip to the A rran Islan d s, sightseeing in Galway, the Burren, the Cliffs of Moher, A illw ee C ave, D oolin, Newmarket-on-Fergus, and a m edieval banquet at Bunratty Castle. They will fly out of Shannon airport to return home the night of Wednesday, July 28. Shenanigan members appreciate all the support that the community has given them. It has taken over 30,000 pop cans and many donations to fund this trip. The group recently released their second CD. It is entitled “From Ireland to Morrow County- and from Morrow County to You!” It’s available for $12 at Murray D rugstore or from any Shenanigans member. The plaques depicted the original lone School and the new lone Plaza, which features the original school bell. Both M urdock and Allen completed their tenure with lone Schools June 30. New Superintendent/Principal Bryn Browning stepped in July 1. Debbie Radie, one of the original school board members, was also recognized for her year of work with the district and presented a rosebush. Radie resigned her position when she moved out of the district boundaries.
