Stop and check out the new sign for the Oregon Trail Library District- Heppner Branch. The Friends of the Heppner Library commissioned Bob DeSpain to make the sign. DeSpain, a local carpenter from Heppner, built the sign out of “Trex,” a decking material that is maintenance free. The only part of the sign that will need maintained is the lettering, which is a white-colored stain. DeSpain and A1 Riney spent several volunteer hours preparing the site by removing the Oregon grape that had grown up around the old sign and digging a large boulder out of the ground. The sign was stabilized in the ground with concrete and positioned to provide maximum visibility.
