Jones has high caliber willingness and ethics To the Editor: I recently learned that W illiam C. (B ill) Jones is seeking election to the position o f Circuit Court Judge for the 6th Judicial D istrict o f the O regon Judicial D epartm ent ( U m a tilla a n d M o rro w counties). It is with honor that I submit a brief observation on his competency to successfully perform that service. W hen I served as the Staff Judge A dvocate o f the 9 th I n f a n tr y D iv is io n (M otorized) at Fort Lewis, Washington. Bill served as my Deputy for several years. Bill’s service w as perform ed in a superb manner. 1 know that he h a s h e ld m a n y o th e r responsible positions in the Arm y and, in every instance, proved his willingness to make the needed sacrifices to see th a t th e m is s io n w a s accom plished.,,,l kno\y M s p ro fe ssio n a l alia p e ri^ M l ethics to be o f the highest caliber. His outstanding record o f service in the A rm y stands as a testam ent to his success in serving our great nation. In ad d itio n , I have kept up with B ill’s service in his b e lo v e d O reg o n since leaving the Army. Bill has held responsible positions in your judicial system and there is no doubt in my m ind that he has perform ed all o f those duties in an adm irable manner. O n a personal level, both Bill and his w on d erfu l w ife, Ju n e, are native Oregonians and active in their church and community. I am proud o f their success in raising a fam ily o f wonderful ch ild ren that every person could wish for. All o f these attributes demonstrate Bill’s outstanding c a p a c i ty to s u c c e e d in positions o f great trust and responsibility. To that end, I am proud to urge the voters in your area to elect Bill Jones to the Offióe that he Ls1seekid(a.4?d will make a great judge. (s) Col. C harles E.' Bbnriey (USA, retired) Dripping Springs, Texas Hill already has experience as a judge To the Editor: I believe that this race for Circuit Court Judge is one o f the m ost im portant in the May Primary. I think that Dan Hill is the best candidate for the job, and here is why: D an has by far the most judge experience o f any o f the people running. He has been a Municipal Court Judge for the City o f H erm iston for eight years, making decisions on traffic, dom estic violence and driving under the influence cases. He has been a part-time C ir c u it C o u r t J u d g e f o r Order M a g n e t i c Door S i g n s HERE Heppner Gazette-Times Umatilla and Morrow counties for three years. This is the same court that he is running for now. None o f the other candidates have th at ty p e o f ju d ic ia l experience. We need a judge who will not need to be trained. We need a judge who has already sat on a large num ber of cases in this district. Dan has already had a large n um ber o f his d e c is io n s u p h e ld by th e Oregon Appellate Courts, with very few reversals. N one o f the other candidates can say that. Experience as a judge in this area is what really sets Dan Hill apart from the other candidates. Please elect Dan as your next Circuit Judge. Jones sets benchmarks in every facet of his life To the Editor: To the citizens o f Umatilla and M orrow Counties, I am very proud to endorse Bill Jones as C ircuit Court judge for the 6th Judicial District o f the Oregon Judicial D epartm ent (U m atilla and M o rro w c o u n ti e s .) . B ill definitely has the experience and k n ow ledge to m ake a difference in the judicial system o f O regon, and I can think o f no one better qualified to sit the bench o f the 6th judicial District at this time. I first met Bill and June at Fort Bliss, Texas in the early ’70s w here he served as my Executive Officer in an Army hawk missile battery. Bill was new in the A rm y at that tim e but was not new to law, having already begun his pre-law training. Bill’s professionalism and extraordinary' “com m on sense judgm ent” coupled with his pleasant m anner and fine se n se o f h u m o r s ta rte d a friendship that has lasted for 30 years. B i l l ’s c o n f id e n t p ro fessio n alism and e a sy going m anner are not only reflected in his work but also in his w onderful family. His lovely wife June and he have r a is e th re e tr e m e n d o u s children in Bill III, Tevor and Emily. Together they have held this happy, healthy fam ily on course for 34 years, m aking notable contributions to their comm unity, its organizations and people. They are active contributors in health care, where Emily works; local law enforcem ent organizations; scouting; and in support o f other local businesses. I know for sure that Bill sdll loves fishing a good trout stream as he did w hen we w orked together in the Army. B ill h a s s e t a benchmark for all of us in every f a c e t o f h is lif e . H e is p ro fe ssio n a lly c o m p e ten t, s e ttin g h ig h s ta n d a rd s in judgm ent based on his m any years o f experience. He sets a great exam ple as a husband, f a th e r a n d c o m m u n ity contributor. Finally, Bill is the kind o f friendly easy-going m a n it ta k e s to m a k e persuasive arguments stick in th e le g a l a n d p o litic a l environments. I strongly endorse Bill in his quest for the C ircuit C ourt seat o f U m atilla and M orrow counties and I know that the good people o f the State o f O regon are lucky indeed to have Bill, June and their fam ily as com m unity members. (s) Jim Adamson NA SA Astronaut (retired) W oodbine, M D Jones has strong interest in the welfare of children To the Editor: I am supporting and voting for Bill Jones for Circuit Court Judge. Bill is dedicated, hard working, and committed to doing what is right. He has a lo n g a n d a m a z in g background in the legal system that has prepared him very well to be a fine Circuit Court Judge. A ls o of g reat im portance to m e is B ill’s strong caring interest in the w e lfa re o f o u r c h ild r e n , particularly underprivileged children. He has been a youth sports coach, an Assistant Boy Scout M aster and merit badge counselor, a Sunday School teacher, a M ock C ourt Trial C om petition organizer and ju dge, and he is a volunteer w ith the SM A R T R eading 2 3 9 E r m M a i n Street. H r r m iv t n n , O H *)'*81 8 . I To the Editor: Bill Jones is the best qualified candidate for Circuit C ourt Judge. I have w orked with him as an attorney for Umatilla County, practiced law in the judicial district, which he adm inisters, and know n him for many years. Bill had adistinguished career as a litigator and law professor for the m ilitary for 22 years, w as an effective U m atilla C ounty counsel for f iv e y e a r s a n d a v e ry s u c c e s s f u l T r ia l C o u r t administrator for five years in ou r reg io n . B ill is largely responsible for m any o f the improvements and expansions that you have seen in our local counhouse in recent years and are anticipating in Hermiston. To the Editor: B ill Jones, the trial court adm inistrator for the 6th Judicial District, is a candidate for 6th Judicial District Circuit C ourt Ju d g e this fall. Bill served his country as an Army A ir D efense A rtillery Office and a Judge Advocate for over 22 years. B ill w as under my direct supervision during part o f h is tim e a s a J u d g e Advocate. I also know o f Bill’s c o n trib u tio n s to the A rm y when he did not work directly for me. Bill was an excellent lawyer and Arm y officer. As a department Chair and Dean of the A rm y’s L aw School in Charlottesville, VA, I selected Bill to serve on the faculty o f the school. Such assignments in the Arm y are highly sought after and selection is a m ark o f distinction. Bill was highly regarded as a law teacher and his w ork showed exceptional legal scholarship and ability. Bill subsequently worked for me at the Headquarters for the US A rm y E urope during the time that the Berlin Wall came down. The legal issues facing the A rm y w ere difficult and re q u ire d in n o v a tiv e leg al thinking and talents. B ill’s guidance and advice to the Commanding General and me TO W OLD HOMLTOW!\ S IORL! Please join us In wishing Norm and Barb hesl wishes and thanks: and thanks to those who have made us feel so welcome! M arcus and Lisa Collier were instrumental in forging the A rm y’s legal relationship to a unified G erm any. Bill was recognized by his fellow judge a d v o c a te s as an e x c elle n t lawyer. M o s t v o te r s in Umatilla and Morrow counties know a little o f w hat Judge A dvocates do in the m ilitary from m ovies and television shows. W hile the movies and television m ay glam orize the legal work of judge advocates, it is a very demanding and fast p aced practice o f law that dem ands exceptional legal knowledge, the ability to reach and m ake difficult decisions and integrity. These are the same traits needed as a Circuit C ourt Judge. Bill displayed these talents while serving on active duty. Bill Jones has a superb reputation as a law yer for the A rm y . T h e q u a li ti e s he d isp la y e d w h ile in a c tiv e service are the same qualities n eed ed as a C ircu it C ourt Judge.
