Hill has announced his candidacy for circuit judge for Umatilla and Morrow counties. Hill has filed fo r p o s itio n 3, c u rr e n tly o c c u p ie d by J u d g e R udy M urgo. Hill is endorsed by Ju d g e M u rg o as h is replacement. Judge Murgo has f ile d fo r e le c tio n to th e Supreme Court. H ill is a practicing attorney in Hermiston and has been a practicing attorney for nearly 17 years. Most recently, Hill has been the appointed half-tim e circuit ju d g e, pro- tem, for Umatilla and Morrow counties primarily responsible for prison cases, small claims, traffic, landlord-tenant matters, county nuisance cases, and other cases as assigned. H ill w as appointed circuit judge, pro-tem, by the C h ie f Justice o f the O regon Supreme Court after approval by the S uprem e C ourt, upon the recom m endation o f the presiding ju d g e and a select local com m ittee. He spent nearly three years actively on the bench conducting judicial b usiness until budget cuts reduced his status to inactive. H e h a s s in c e th e n b e e n reappointed as a circuit judge, pro-tem , and has perform ed ju d icial duties as requested. Prior to that Hill was a military prosecutor, city prosecutor for H erm iston and the elected municipal judge for Hermiston for six years. Hill has also been the chairm an o f the U m atilla County Planning Commission, a d ire c to r on th e B M C C B o a rd , a n d a m e m b e r o f n u m e r o u s o th e r lo c a l committees and organizations. Hill is a Lieutenant Colonel in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps, Oregon Army National G uard and also is a m em ber o f the G o v e rn o r’s M ilitary Council. H ill is m a rrie d to Jacque M ack Hill, ow ner o f I.J. G em s in H erm iston, and has one daughter M ackenzie. Hill is a life long U m atilla County resident whose family s ta r te d f a r m in g in th e Pendleton area in the 1930s. Hill w as bom in Pendleton in 1961, to Jam es R. Hill and D o lo r is V. H ill th e n o f Pendleton. Hill graduated from H erm iston H igh School in 1 9 7 9 , B M C C in 1 9 8 1 , O regon State U niversity in 1 9 8 3 , a n d W illa m e tte University College o f Law in 1986. H ill h a s a d v a n c e d studies in m ilitary law, and holds a diplom a from the U .S .» Army Com m and and General Staff College. t Hill is a member o f the H erm iston Rotary C lub, the chair o f the U m atilla County Facilities C itizens’ A dvisory G roup, and a m em ber o f the facilities advisory group now planning the Umatilla County G o v e r n m e n t a n d J u s tic e Center at Hermiston.
