Turkeys, pumpkin, fall
colors, leaves, pies, pilgrims,
cranberry sauce, m ashed
potatoes; families, friends and
strangers gathered around a
table sharing abundance; and
football and family games.
These are some symbols that
immediately call to mind the
Thanksgiving holiday.
H ow ever, b eing
thankful isn’t just about one
day a year. It's taking a few
minutes at the end o f each day
to count our blessings, it’s
remembering to say thank you
to people for all the small
things that make a difference
each day in our lives; it's
expressing gratitude for those
fighting for our country’s
freedom; it's remembering
those who brought us to
freedom during other times;
it's realizing that the things that
make us the most thankful
usually involv e feelings, our
environm ent, and people,
sharing, caring and joining
together to accomplish those
things, which, when faced
alone, looked impossible. As
you experience the day . please
take time to recall the positiv e
things about the past year and
be thankful for each other and
this community. Relax and
enjoy the day.
And the next week,
take a big breath and prepare
to join the Heppner holiday
festiv ities on Thursday, Dec. 4
and Friday, Dec. 5. Kick off
H eppner H ap p en in g s by
stringing some lights on your
favorite vehicle and entering
the Light Parade, decorating
the Main Street tree, taking
your children for pictures w ith
S anta at the S hoe Box,
viewing the trees during "Stroll
Heppner” and attending the
second Christmas tree auction
where tree themes range from
“Full of Hot Air” to a “Tropical
Christmas.”

sure to visit each business
regularly, so as to not miss
word. See the accompanying
Ciazctte article for additional
information. The end result
