The loss ended the season for the Mustangs, who ended with a 10 and 1 recording, having advanced to the quarterfinals for the fifth straight year. The loss also ended the Mustangs football careers for seniors, Chuy Elguezabal, Brian Haguewood, Kyler Lovgren, Brian Smith, Justin Botefuhr, Cody Walton, Zack Skaggs, Aaron Griffith, Tanner Britt and Judd Lemmon. The M ustangs couldn’t get anything going offensively in the first half, punting four straight times, while Myrtle Point built a 20- 0 lead before Haguewood seemed to spark the Mustangs with a quarterback sack for a 20-yard loss to force a punt. E Elguezabal hit Jode Coil twice for 12 yards to give the Mustangs their first first down of the game at the Bobcat 40- yard line. Elguezabal hit Lovgren for six yards, Tyler Boyer ran for eight, Elguezabal ran for seven more, but an interception gave the Bobcats the ball at the one and they ran out the clock to end the first half. The Bobcats scored early to increase their lead to 28-0 in the third before the Mustangs put together their first scoring drive of the game. Lovgren returned to kickoff to the Mustangs 37-yard line. After a three-yard run by Lovgren, E lguezabal hit Botefuhr for a 20-yard gain then took off on an option keep for 32 yards to the eight- yard line. Elguezabal then hit Botefuhr in the end zone for their first touchdown o f the game. The conversion pass failed, so the Bobcats led 28- Ladies LORUS Dress 6 midway through the third quarter. On the Bobcats next possession, Smitl) had a quarterback sack for a six- yard loss to force a punt with the Mustangs taking over at their own twenty. Boyer broke free for 21 yards and Lovgren ran for ten, but the drive stalled and the Mustangs were forced to punt, which was downed at the th ree-yard line: The Mustangs forced a punt, which was downed at the Bobcat 32- yard line. An interception at the seven ended the drive and the Bobcats drove the length of the field for a touchdown to make it 34-6. Elguezabal returned the kickoff to the 48-yard line and on third and long hit Lovgren for 12 yards and Boyer ran for three yards and a first down. Elguezabal hit Walton for a 22-yard gain to set up a five-yard touchdown pass to Britt to make the final 34-12. Boyer led the defense with 25 defensive points, with Botefuhr adding 22 point and Smith 20 points. Elguezabal had 16 points, Lovgren 14 points, Skaggs 12 points, Matt Kenny 11 points and Haguewood had nine points. Elguezabal completed 11 o f 22 passes for 118 yards and Boyer rushed six times for 39 yards. Botefuhr caught three passes for 42 yards, Lovgren three for 29 yards and Britt two for 13 yards. Myrtle Point 6 14 8 6-34 Heppner 0 0 6 6-12 The Heppner Garden Club will be holding their annual Greens Workshop on Saturday, Dec. 6, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Morrow C ounty F air P av ilio n , Heppner. Participants will get the opportunity to create their own wreaths or swags. Greens will be supplied for free and the Garden Club will have rings, wire and bows for sale. Gloves and clippers will need* to be brought. Club members will be available for assistance. Seventh grade Ponies lose to Vikings By Larry Palmer The Heppner seventh grade Ponies entertained the visiting Umatilla Vikings. The Ponies struggled early trying to get the ball to go through the hoop, trailing 2 to 8 in the first quarter. In the second quarter, they found their shot and tallied 13 points, but were still down at the half by seven. Another drought in the third quarter and the Ponies were never able to recover, finishing out the contest 29 to 50. Scorers in the game were Joe Pranger with two points, Dalton Wellman with five, Spencer Palmer with 20 and Josh Shank with two points. The next games for the Ponies are at home, Friday, Nov. 21, at 3 p.m., against Columbia and Saturday, Nov. 22,9 a.m., at Stanfield. The P onies lead throughout the contest but could never pull away and ended up winning 30 to 17.
