The Lady Cardinal varsity team played a marathon match against their opponent before claiming the three games needed for a victory. lone lost their first match 16-25, came back and narrowly beat the Mustangs, 27-25, lost their third match, 18-25, and then won the next two matches, 25- 23, 15-12. Meghan M. McCabe led the Cardinals with 13 points, delivering two ace serves. Meghan McCabe also added seven hits, eight passes and led the team with 28 set assists. Emily Key scored eight points, delivered 21 passes and hammered one kill. Diana McElligott scored eight points, launched one ace serve, and led the team with 37 passes and 27 hits. Megan E. McCabe scored six points and delivered 24 set assists. Caitlin Orem scored five points, passed 33 balls, hammered five hits and blocked one Heppner hit. Natalie McElligott scored five points, led the team with seven blocks, handled 37 passes and hammered 20 hits. Ashly Grams did an outstanding job of coming off the bench to score two points for her team. Sara Peck donated four passes, one block and four hits to her team’s effort. Also aiding the Cardinals with their passing were Alyssa Rietmann and Jenny Griffith with two passed balls each. lone’s junior varsity team members were unable to overcome the Mustangs on Tuesday, losing 23-25,25-16, 13- 15. Abby Key served 100 percent, scoring 13 points. Key also delivered 11 set assists. Missy Baker scored seven points, handled 12 passes and knocked over five hits. Jamie VandenBrink scored four points and received seven passes. Ashly Grams aced one serve, scored a total of four points, delivered three hits, five set assists and received 15 passes. The Cardinals came home with third place. lone lost their first match of the day to Dufur. 12-25,21-25. The Cardinal women had a hard time getting their passes to the setters and lacked the net play needed to overcome the Rangers. lone claimed a victory in their second match against Portland Christian, defeating Portland. 26-24, 16-25, 15-13. In the last match of the day, the Cardinal women lost their first game against Wahtonka. 14- 25. The Cardinals avenged their loss with a 25-16 win but was unable to keep up the momentum for the match, dropping the third game. 7-15. Natalie McElligott led the Cardinals with 25 points for the tournament. Emily Key launched over 17 points, while Caitlin Orem and Sara Peck both scored nine points each. Sara Peck really stepped up for the Cardinals on the net knocking over 14 hits and blocking six opponent hits. Diana McElligott scored seven points, Meghan M. McCabe scored four points and Megan E.
