The Morrow County Court On Friday, June 7, Queen Salli McEUigott, with Princesses Genia Grant and Julie Proctor, traveled to Union to the Eastern Oregon Livestock Show. The court started off the day with a Queen’s luncheon where they feasted on taco salad and socialized with other courts in attendance. After the luncheon, the girls prepared for the parade, which was at 2:00, and then for the rodeo, which began at 4:00. At the rodeo, the court participated in the run-in. On Saturday, June 8, the court traveled to Umatilla for the Umatilla Landing Days Festival. The parade started at 10:00, and was followed by a luncheon at the Umatilla Sage Riders grounds. The girls ate homemade chicken and salad. O ther events included the Heppner Chamber of Commerce luncheon on June 11 and a day spent painting planter boxes at the fairgrounds on June 15. On Wednesday, June 19, the girls will attend the Boardman Chamber of Commerce luncheon and will spend Friday and Sunday, June 21 and 23 selling water bottles for Cycle Oregon as $600 is needed to help with traveling expenses. On Saturday, June 22, the court will be at M arilyn Schiller’s for the Umatilla County Century Farm Tour. The court acknowledges Marilyn Schiller, who donated their coats. Blue M ountain Creations of Pendleton did the embroidery on the coats. Heppner Garden Club. Ward and Olson are the first renters to receive the award, said Chuck Bailey of the Garden Club. McCabe was picked as the Most Valuable Player of the 2A All-Star Baseball Series held at Linfield College in McMinnville on June 15-16. McCabe helped the East beat the West tw ice on Saturday evening, June 15, going two for three with three RBls with a tri ple and scoring twice in a 16-0 win in the first game. He then pitched five innings in the night cap, giving up just one run while going one for one with an RBI in a 10-6 win. Condon’s Todd Shaffer won the Most Inspirational award for the East and was picked along with McCabe for an all-star game in Hudson Bay on Saturday, June 22, pitting Washington against Oregon players from 3 A and 4A schools. Also participating from Heppner were Stefan Matheny, Travis Bellamy and Kelly Paullus. All four were sponsored by local businesses including Bank of Eastern Oregon, Rusty Spur Ranch, Lexington Pump, Morrow County Grain Growers and Terry Hughes Insurance of LaGrande. The East wasted little time in the first game on Saturday, as McCabe had an RBI single and Dusty Long of Wahtonka brought home two with a double for a 3-0 lead. They blew it open in the third as Shaffer scored one with a bases-loaded, tw o-out walk. Matheny scored two more with a single and McCabe scored two more with a triple, later scoring on an error to make it 10-0. In the sixth, Bellamy, Paullus and Shaffer all walked and scored on a tw o-out double by Wahtonka’s Jake Foster to make it 13-0. Shaffer hit a three-run homerun in the eighth to score fellow Condon players Jarad Mitchell and Randy Camine to make it 16-0. Matheny ended up one for one with three walks and two RBIs. The East scored three runs in the bottom of the first in the second game with McCabe sin gling and scoring on a double by Yoncalla’s Todd Grassman. In the top o f the second, Paullus threw out a runner trying to steal second to end a West Willow Creek Country Club ladies held a playday on June 11. The East came right back with Bellamy hitting an RBI single, Camine, an RBI sin gle, and McCabe had a sacrifice fly to make it 7-1. They added another in the fourth when Paullus walked and was thrown out trying to steal second, but a run scored on the throw. The East went on to win 10- 6, but the West made it interest ing by scoring four runs in the top of the ninth and had the bases loaded before making the final out. The West took the final game, 9-1, on Sunday, June 16, getting a four-hit complete game win from Ryan Hughes of Crow. Paullus had a pinch-hit single in the fifth to break up the no-hitter and McCabe singled in the sixth, went to third on a throwing error and scored the lone run on a ground- out. Paullus went one for one for the game while McCabe ended up four for eight for the tourna ment and made several fine plays at third base. The outstanding pitcher for the East was Jason Dady of Glen dale and for the West it was Kyle Beilke of Gervais. Outstanding player for the East was McCabe and the West was Hughes. Inspi rational player for the East was Shaffer and for the West, Nathan DeBest o f N estucca, with McCabe picking up the Series MVP plaque. Advisory Committee to meet The W'illow Creek SB1010 Local Advisory Committee will meet Wednesday. June 19. beginning at 7 p.m. at the Pettyjohn Office Building. The agenda includes review of an updated draft of the Agriculture Water Quality Management Plan for the Willow Creek Watershed. The meeting is open to the public. Albertson College honors local student A lbertson C ollege o f Idaho presented academic and community awards to its student body at the 2002 Awards Assembly on May 14. Among those honored was Trish Adams of Heppner. Adams received the “Jumor-To-Be" award.
