An article in the section of the Heppner Gazette called, “Local and Personal Happenings S^T-OTSC o a e fto t/ , if f H EP fK tK , in and About the City”, dated Thursday, June 19, 1902, read: “The teamsters are complaining of bad roads between Heppner and Canyon City. If we expect to hold the trade of the interior it is necessary that something should be done along this line. There is nothing that will benefit a town more than first-class roads leading to it.” Below this clip, another article states: “We learn from the S P R W K fL lone Post that at the beginning of last season the Farmer’s Warehouse had 1,778 sacks of wheat in storage; received 37,035 sacks and shipped 38,813 sacks, requiring 99 cars. The average price paid was 42 cents per bushel. The highest price paid was 56 cents and the lowest 39 cents per bushel.” The current price for a bushel of wheat is $3.52. Agenda items and discussion items include: manager report. Annual Work Plan review, BPA contract, Senate Bill 1010, weed report, and agency reports. The meeting is open to the public. The Heppner Cemetery Dis trict reminds everyone that all flowers will be removed from the cemetery on Monday, June 10. For those who have flowers they want to save, please remove them before then. The Aten's Collection The South Morrow County Scholarship Trust has announced a deadline of August 16,2002 for applications for the Elizabeth Slottee Memorial Scholarship and the Lexington Voter Precinct Scholarship. The Slottee Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to a junior, senior, or graduate student at an accredited college majoring or minormg in music. If no applicants are found, the award can be given to a student who has been accepted into a school of education. The scholarship amount will be determined by the earnings of the donations of the community and the Slottee family, which totals more than $ 10,000. The Lexington Voter Precinct Scholarship is for $500 and will be awarded to a college sophomore, junior or senior living in the Lexington voter precinct. Willamette University announces recent graduation missionaries to Africa, will be speaking about their experiences ministering to the people of Somalia on Sunday, June 16, at 6 p.m. at the Christian Life Center. The Yunubas have lived and worked in Africa for nearly 18 years and are currently laboring in Djibouti. The public is invited to come and learn about the work that is being done for God’s kingdom in Somalia. The Christian Life Center is located at 535 W.
