FOUR - Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, May 8, 2002 Cardinals top at Pendleton The lone track teams traveled to Pendleton to participate in the Pendleton JV track meet on April 30. The Cardinal boys finished first, while the girls placed second. For the boys, Brad Burright finished first in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.72. He also took first in the 300m hurdles with 41.12, first in the long j ump with 21’4", and first in the triple jump with 41 ’9". Andrew Rietmann finished first in the 100m dash with a time of 11.12, first in the 200m dash with a time of 22.95, and first in the 400m dash with a time of 53.62. Mike Radie placed second in the 100m dash with a time of 11.42 and finished second in the 200m dash with 23.73. Cayle Krebs took second in the discus with a throw of 121’ 11", eighth in the shot put with a throw of 37’1" and 13th in the 100m dash with a time of 12.44. Til Tullis placed third in the 110m hurdles with 19.15, and fourth in the 300m hurdles ending at 49.56. Karl Morgan took seventh in the 110m hurdles with a time of 24.00 and 14th in the discus with a throw of 88’09". He also placed 15th in the javelin with a throw of 94’4", and 18th in the shot put with a throw of 31 ’05". Cody Bergstrom placed 15th in the 1500m run with a time o f 5:30.05,and seventh in the 3000m run with a time of 12:13. Derek Campbell finished ninth in the 400m dash with a time of 1:00, 23rd in the javelin with a throw of 86’02". and jn the shot put with a throw o f 34'.02". Tim Doherty finished 15th in the 400m dash with a time of 1:05, and 12th in the 800m dash with a time of 2:45. Austin Arabello placed 14th in the 800m with a time of 3:15, 25th in the discus with a throw of 4T.08", 30th in the javelin with a throw o f 58'.08", and 31st in the shot put with a throw of 19'.02". Ashley Roberts placed third in the Javelin with a throw o f 131 ’ 11", and fifth in the triple jump with a jump of 33’10". The 4x lOOm-relay team o f Radie, Roberts, Krebs and Arabello finished first with a time o f45.59. The 4x400 relay team o f Campbell, Roberts, Radie and Tullis finished fourth at 4:05.66. Diana McElligott, for the ladies, finished first in the 200m dash with a time o f27.42 and first in the 400m dash with a time of 1:02.16. Cyndi Heagy took second in the 100m dash with a time of 13.26 and finished second in the 400m dash with a time of 1:04.24. Gun club at state championship Mike Bennett, Misty Bennett, Mark Schlichting, Jeff Cutsforth, and Kieth Papineau, (front) Chance Day Amellia Peck placed second in the 100m hurdles with a time of 17.57, second in the 300m hurdles with a time of 50.17, and second in the discus with a throw of 98’10". Kim Morris finished sixth in the 1500m run with a time of 6:30, and sixth in the high jump with a jump o f4 ’2". Missy Baker ended 12th in the 100m dash with a time of 14.35, eighth in the 200m dash with a time of 30.81, 12th in the discus with 66’0", and ninth in the shot put with 26’4". Brittany Day finished fifth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 19.13, and 13th in the long jump with a jump o f9 ’9". Jaysi Bennetto placed seventh in the 100m hurdles with a time of 20.15, third in the 3000m run with a time of 14:29. and eighth in the triple jump with a jump of 25’5". Eva Chitty finished sixth in the 200m dash with a time of 30.58 and sixth in the long jump with a jump of 13’6". Barbara Holland placed 11th in the discus with a throw of 66’7", took 10th in the javelin with a throw of 70’5", and fifth in the high jump with a jump of 4 ’2". Kasie Peterson finished 19th in the javelin with a throw of 42"05". The 4x 100m relay team of D. McElligott, Peck, Heagy, and N. McElligott finished second with a time of 53.27. The 4x400m relay team o f Heagy, Morris, Holland and Chitty finished fifth with a time of 4:48.33. Champion-Mike Bennett with 97 o f 100 birds broken; Class Championship singles (100 birds), C C lass Cham pion-M ark Schlichting with 98 out of 100; O regon State C lass Single Champions (200 birds), B Class- Mark Schlichting with 195 out of 200, runner up; C Class-Harvey Childers with 193 out o f200, first place; D Class-Bill Schlichting with 194 out of 200, first place; high point lady-Misty Bennett, runner up with 182 out of 200. Rookie Youth Challenge was held on Saturday, April 20, for anyone under the age of 20 in their first year to register targets. The Oregon State ATA provided the 200 shells for the 26 entries. Morrow County Gun Club’s junior shooter. Chance Day, won top honors in the 10-16 year old sub junior bracket, shooting a 85 out of 100 in the first round and then coming back to shoot a 92 out of 100 in his second round for a total of 177 of 200 birds. Marjorie Baker Vierson, 94, o f H erm iston, died on Wednesday, May 1, 2002, at the Good Shepherd Medical Center in Hermiston. A celebration o f life service will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2002, at 1 p.m. at the Hermiston Christian Center in Hermiston. Burial will follow at the Hermiston Cemetery. She was bom on January 2, 1908, at Moses Lake, Washington, to Clyde and Ethel Henderson. In 1922, the fam ily moved to Cashmere, Washington, where she graduated from high school. Later, they moved to Pullman, Washington, where she graduated from Washington State University in 1930. She taught school at Kahlotus, Washington, for two years and then m arried E. Markham Baker of Kahlotus in September, 1932. They farmed his mother’s place near Kahlotus until 1937 when they bought a farm near lone and moved there. They farmed there until her husband’s death in 1968. For several years they had spent their winters in Arizona. In 1971 she married Earnest Vierson of Mesa, Arizona and they continued to spend the winters there and the summers in Hermiston. Mr. Vierson died in 1982. She continued to spend time in Arizona and Hermiston until 1995 when she moved to Hermiston permanently. M arjorie had done considerable traveling. She was very active in church and was a long-time 4-H leader. She served on state church boards and state 4-H com m ittees. She was a m em ber o f the H erm iston Christian Center and a 50-plus year member of Eastern Star. Survivors include sons, Ronald Baker of Hermiston and Duane Baker o f Pleasanton, California; daughter, Mardine Larsen o f South Bend, Washington; two sisters, Vera Adler of Littleton, Colorado and Mildred Hoover of Cornelius; nine grandchildren; 10 g reat grandchildren; and stepchildren, Jacqueline Rohrs o f Chandler, Arizona and Myrlin Vierson of Omaha, Nebraska.
