picked up their third win o f the year
against one loss by beating the
visiting Condon Blue Devils, 45-22.

extended it to 20-14 at halftime.
Using a 14-0 run. the Mustangs blew
the game open in the third, getting
10 points from Stefanic I lanson and
four from Tiffany Piper, and took
a 36-16 lead going into the fourth.
Chantea M acaulay scored three
points in the fourth as the Mustangs
kept up the pressure and won going
away.
Hanson finished with 12 points
and seven rebounds to lead the
Mustangs, with Miller adding nine
points and three steals. Bntt finished
with eight points; Macaulay had three
assists and two steals; Nikki Sisk
had four rebounds, two steals and
two assists; Shanna Rietmann had
three rebounds and two steals; while
Madison Bailey had three assists.

Thousands of students throughout
the country and in many foreign
countries competed on Dec. 5 in the
37rd Knowledge M aster Open
academic competition. Middle
school, junior high and high schooi
students faced their computers and
200 rough questions to vie for top
scores based on the accuracy and
speed o f their answ ers.
A team o f high school students
at Heppner High School scored 1089
o f 2.000 possible. A team o f junior
high students scored 856 o f 2.000
possible. Academic coach Linda
Dutcher described the event as an
"outstanding opportunity for students
to demonstrate their academic ability
while working as a team."

The Know ledge M aster Open
was designed to stimulate enthusiasm
for learning and recognition for
academ ic accomplishment. The
contest runs on classroom computers
to allow all students the opportunity
to compete in a large academic event
without the expense o f traveling to
a central site. Results o f the contest
are tabulated into overall, state, and
enrollm ent-size rankings by
Academic Hallmarks, a Colorado
publishing firm that hosts the event.

a 32-26 win for the Heppner

Blue Devils on Tuesday, Dec. 18.
The win avenged an earlier loss to
the Blue Devils and improved the
Mustangs' record to 4-1 on the year.
The Blue Devils took a 4-0 lead
in the first quarter, hut a Brett Barber

and lay-in tied it up. The Blue Devils
led a low -scoring first quarter. 6-4.
