EIGHT - Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, December 5, 2001 Sheriff's Report The M orrow C ounty S h e riff s Office (M CSO) reports handling the following business: -MCSO, Boardman Police Dept, received a report o f an alarm at a residence in Boardman. Contact was made by the security company and a resident advised it was caused by the wind. -M CSO received a report from a caller in Im gon that her driver's side window in her vehicle had been broken out and the stereo, amplifier and some CDs taken. -M CSO received an additional report o f a vehicle broken into next door to the previous call. -M CSO received a report o f a paper box knocked down in Lexington. -M CSO received a report o f a stud horse in the caller's driveway in Boardman. -MCSO received a request for assistance from a caller in Heppner to contact her husband who works for ODOT and tell him the roof of their office building had blown off. -M CSO received a report o f several cows out on Highway 730 just inside the Morrow County line. A deputy was unable to locate the cattle. The ow ner was contacted. -MCSO, Oregon State Police, Heppner Police Dept, received a report from a caller on the Western Route road (USFS 52 road) who had been taking pictures o f antelope and found one that had been shot. A suspicious vehicle was spotted near the scene. Officers were unable to locate the pickup. -MCSO received a report o f a power/phone line down and dangling across the road on Utah Street in Im gon. It was determined to be a cable line; USA cable was contacted and advised. -MCSO received a request for background information from US Investigation on an individual. -M CSO did two background checks on female subjects and returned them to the US Office o f Personnel Management. -MCSO deputy cited Leo Bardo Jacquez, 49, o f Boardman for Allowing Livestock to Run at l^rge. -M CSO deputy gave a driver a ride to the gasoline station. -Lexington EMTs, Heppner ambulance received a request for an ambulance in Lexington for an elderly female who was having difficulty eating and was not feeling well. The patient was transported to Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Heppner. -MCSO received a request to relay a m essage to a hunter near the Tupper corrals. * -MCSO, Heppner Police Dept, Heppner am bulance received a request for an ambulance in Heppner for a 75-year-old man who was exhausted, breathing but unresponsive. The patient was transported to Pioneer M em orial Hospital in Heppner. -M CSO received a report o f a stolen cell phone. -MCSO, Boardman Police Dept, received a report from the Nomad Restaurant in Boardman that two subjects left without paying for their meals. -M CSO received a report o f a potato truck with its flashers on that was partially blocking the road on Highway 730. A deputy was unable to locate the vehicle. -MCSO received a report o f a potato truck crossing the Umatilla Bridge that was all over the road. -Boardman Police Dept, officer arrested Juan Antonio Reyes, 55, on an Im gon Justice Court warrant for Failure to Pay Fine/Violation o f M orrow C ounty Zoning Ordinance. Oct. 24: Boardman Police Dept, officer arrested M ario Olguin- Sanches, 19, on an Im gon Justice Court warrant for Failure to Pay Fine/Harassment. He was lodged at the Um atilla C ounty Jail. Christmas concert to feature * local fiddlers, violinists Local fiddle and classical violin students o f two area teachers will hold a combined Christmas concert on Friday, Dec. 14, at 7 p.m. at the United Church o f Christ in lone. Over 30 students, who range in age from five years old through adult will play violin, guitar or cello in various groups and as solo perform ances with piano accompaniment. The m usicians are students o f Peg Willis o f Pendleton and April Hall Cutting o f Hermiston. They will perform some Christmas tunes as well as other fiddling, folk, and classical selections. The program should last a little over an hour and will be followed by refreshments. The concert is free and everyone is welcome to attend. Greg Smith receives award State Representative Greg Smith (R-Heppner) has received the "Grand Champion Legislator" award from the Oregon Fairs Association. The award recognizes Smith commitment to making Oregon's county fairs a lasting part o f the state's culture. "Each and every county fair provides an important avenue for residents, particularly our children and teens, to exhibit their talents and skills. They also serve as an important social event for rural counties," Smith said. "I am honored to receive this award from the Oregon Fairs Association." Smith was a strong voice for the county fairs during the 2001 Oregon Legislature, according to a news release. As a mem ber o f the House -MCSO deputy cited David Ortega Castro, 23, for Violation o f the Basic Rule, 73 m ph in a 55 m ph zone. -MCSO, Union Pacific Railroad received a report from Boardman Police Dept, officer that a train traveling east near the Port o f Morrow was on fire and the fire was coming from the second locomotive's engine compartment. It was advised the train would be stopped as soon as it topped the grade it was on. -Oregon State Police received a report o f a possible motor vehicle accident. A caller thought he briefly saw taillights over the edge o f the road on 1-84 eastbound. -Oregon State Police, Boardman Police Dept, received a report from a caller that her purse had been stolen by the male subject who had picked her up east o f Boardman on 1-84. The caller had run out o f gasoline and the male subject gave her a nde to the Pony Express Shell station near Hermiston. The male subject allegedly works there. The information w as relayed to the OSP. -MCSO, ODOT received a report of a dead deer on the left lane o f 1-84 eastbound that was a traffic hazard. The deer was moved. MCSO received another call from a caller to report he had hit the deer but was okay. He requested an officer contact him. -MCSO received a report o f a large dog hit across from the school at the fruit stand in Imgon. The caller requested someone take care o f it before the school kids saw it. -MCSO received a report o f an automated alarm from the Im gon Justice Court. -MCSO received information that a male subject threatened a judge and an officer over a traffic ticket he received. The subject was scheduled for a court date today. Deputies were requested to be at the court during his appearance. -MCSO received a report from a caller in Hermiston o f a burglary. The call was transferred to UCSO. -MCSO received a request for deputy contact from West Extension Irrigation regarding shutting down bridges. -M CSO received a report from Um atilla Army Depot that 100 workers were w alking o ff the job. -Im gon ambulance received a request for an ambulance from the Imgon Clinic for a 51 -year-old male with chest pains. The patient was transported to Good Shepherd M edical Center in Hermiston. -Boardman Police Dept, officer arrested Charles William Davis, 43, on an Imgon Justice Court warrant for C ontem pt o f Court. -MCSO, Boardman Police Dept, received an abandoned 911 call from Boardman. On recontact, an older m ale subject advised o f a fight in progress and disconnected. The residence was recontacted again and a younger male advised there was no problem, then became irate and hung up. -M CSO received a report from Devin Oil in Boardman o f a male subject with a stolen credit card. -M CSO, Heppner Fire Dept, received a report o f a fire on Alpine Lane. It was out o f district and no response was made. -MCSO received a report o f a stolen stereo. -Boardman Police Dept, received a hang-up 911 call from a Boardman residence. It was determined children were playing on the phone. -MCSO, UCSO received a report from Union County o f a gunshot wound to a male subject who was possibly in M orrow County. The location was determined to be past Starkey. -MCSO received a report from a caller in Im gon o f two cows who were back in her yard. A deputy put the cows back in the pasture. -MCSO, Boardman Police Dept, received a report of an audible alarm at Boardman Auto Repair. It was determ ined all was okay. -MCSO received a report o f a deer hit on Highway 207 that was causing a road hazard. A deputy was unable to locate the deer. -MCSO, Boardman Police and Fire depts. received a report o f a fire alarm with sprinkler activation at the Riverfront Lodge. It was advised to disregard the alarm; there was a broken sprinkler head in the sauna room. Singspiration set Rhea Creek at First Christian Club to meet Singspiration for the month of December will be held at Heppner First Christian Church on Sunday, Dec. 9, at 7 p.m. Everyone is invited to participate. Refreshments will be available downstairs in the fellowship hall. The church is located at the comers Gale and Center streets, one block o ff Main Street. The Rhea Creek Social Club will' meet at Marlene Peterson's home for a C hristm as potluck and gift exchange on W ednesday, Dec. 12 at 11 a.m. Crafts may be brought for the hospital auxiliary bazaar. The bill will provide one percent o f net lottery proceeds up to $ 1.55 million per year for fairs. That amount will also be indexed to the Consumer Price Index, which will allow the amount to go up each year. The money will be allocated through the County Fair Commission. "This was a big win for rural counties and our fairs," Smith said. "It is the most important legislation for county fairs in 10 years."
