O Flipped pickup ended up on golf course A Heppner woman died of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident that occurred just outside the Heppner city limits around 2:15 p.m. Thursday. November 15. According to reports. Mane Van Etta. 43, was attempting to pass another vehicle that was turning onto Dee Cox Road from Highway 74. The other vehicle struck the rear oi Van Etta's vehicle, w hich caused her to lose control of her car. \ an Etta's vehicle went off the road and rolled. She was transported to Pioneer Memorial Hospital and then life-flighted by helicopter to a Bend hospital where she died on Friday. Nov. 16. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured. According to police, no alcohol was involved and both drivers were wearing seat belts Heppner Rescue, Heppner Ambulance. Morrow County Sheriffs deputies, Heppner Police Department and ()regon State Police responded to the scene. A memorial fund has been established at Klamath First federal Bank in P.O. Anderson praised for funding effort The Morrow County School Board, at their Tuesday, Nov. 13, regular meeting, heard a report from board Chair Julie Weikel on the Oregon School Boards Association fall regional conference recently held in Pendleton. Weikel said those at the conference indicated concern about the projected state revenue shortfall. She also said that the Helix School District superintendent reported on the small school funding success. She gave a standing tribute to Morrow County School District Superintendent Bruce Anderson for getting the small school funding effort organized and "making it happen." Also at the meeting Mark Rietmann, chair o f the Heppner- Lexington Advisory Committee, voiced concern about the role o f the advisory committees in the process o f deciding on buildings in their communities. In other business, the board: -heard a report from school bond project manager Nan Hall on bond projects to date. -heard a curriculum report on the High Performance Learning Grant from Columbia Middle School Principal Ron Anthony and CMS students. -heard a report from board Weikel on the progress in the superintendent search. She said a brochure has been completed and has been posted at 700-1000 sites. She said that those interested in being considered for the superintendent screening committee should contact ESD Superintendent George Murdock or Julie Ashbeck, board secretary, at the district office. -adopted the 2002-03 budget calendar as presented. -adopted the Internet Safety Policy as presented. -adopted the maintenance supervisor job description and salary range. -certified the recall election results from the Morrow County Clerk's Office as presented. -approved the following resignations/retirements/termina tions: Nohemi Estrada-Suro, lone Schools Spanish teacher; Brandon Kauffman, termination o f Heppner High School extra duty assistant football coach contract; Ramona Hernandez, Riverside High School department secretary; Michelle Luna, resignation from A.C. Advertising Deadline 12 Noon Tuesdays The Heppner-Lexington Advisory Committee, at their Nov. 19 meeting, postponed a recommendation to the Morrow County School Board on a plan for the Heppner Elementary t School gym and cafeteria until they receive a site survey. Committee members anticipate receiving the survey by their regular Dec. 5 meeting, after which they intend to make a recommendation to the board. Todd Turner of Barber Barrett Turner Architects, Inc.. Bend, presented two options on the Heppner Elementary school site. Near the close of the Monday evening meeting, committee chair Mark Rietmann polled the committee members as to their preference concerning the two proposed site plans. All committee members preferred the plan which called for safety modifications on Stansbury Street in front of the school. The second plan called for rerouting Stansbury Street between the current junior high building and the old gymnasium. Rietmann said he also polled Heppner certified staff who indicated to him that they would be satisfied with the safety modifications. Rietmann told the committee that he invited each certified staff member to the Monday night meeting. Many of the certified staff attended. Safety modifications could include a raised, lighted and covered walkway between the elementary school and the new cafeteria-gym-auditorium facility, curb extensions, speed bumps and signage. Turner also presented cost estimates on the two proposed site plans. Parade of Lights planned downtown Heppner's fifth annual Parade of Lights is planned for next Thursday. Nov ember 29. at 6 p.m. in downtown Heppner Bu s i n e s s e s and individuals are invited to enter the light parade and win cash prizes for first, second and third places. A special Kn> Kringlc award will be presented for fourth place. Line-up for entrants w ill be at Green Feed and Seed at 5 p.m. Nov. 29. Entry forms are available at the Heppner Chamber of Commerce. Turner told the committee that the budget would not allow for a double gym. The proposed gym w ould be a 50'x84' regulation sized facility with bleachers on one side Cost estimates for a 5()'x74' double gym are $200.00- $265.500; estimates for a 50'x84' double gvm would be $300.000- $380.700. The Street Improv ement plan would require an additional $131,568-$ 188.068 for a 50'x74’ double gym or $232.568- $312.268 for a 50'x84' double gym. The Street Relocation plan would require an additional $197,568-$254.068 fora 50'x74' double gym or $297.568- $378.268 for a 50'xN4' double gym. In other business the committee appointed committee member Mike Armato as their delegate to the superintendent search committee. Marcia Kemp, who is also a member of the Advisory Committee, indicated that she was seeking appointment as the Lexington community delegate to the search committee.
