Nine members of the Heppner Garden Club traveled to see the Oregon Gardens in Silverton on July 24. "The tour guides were very knowledgeable on the plants there and made it very interesting," said a garden club spokesperson. The tour included a "people mover" for people who can’t walk a lot. Sightseers can stroll along the paths at their own pace. At the entrance to the garden is the Hughes Water Garden which features a waterfall. A children's garden includes an area where children can dig for "dinosaur bones". All of the exhibits have sponsors. Jackson and Perkins sponsored a "beautiful" rose garden that was in bloom when the group arrived. There is also a gift shop at the garden that has souvenirs. The Heppner travelers stayed in Salem that rught and then returned home through Sisters. "The garden club there should feel very proud of themselves because they have really done some beautiful projects, from the hanging pots in town to decorating where the highway divides,” said the club spokesperson. Going through the Fossil area, the group saw two elk and quite a few deer. ^Office Supplies FAX PAPER Computer Paper G azette-Tim es 676-9228 Army to celebrate construction completion The U.S. Army plans to celebrate the end of construction for the Umatilla chemical agent disposal facility with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony and public tours to be held August 13.
