The workmen have put the final touches on the dining room floor
at the center. They put a sealant on it to preserve it and prevent scuff
marks from chairs and shoes. It gives it a nice shine and should last at
least a year.
Over the weekend. Mildred Eubanks was hospitalized for a liver
ailment at Kadlec Hospital in Richland. Wash, and passed away. We
are so sorry about her passing. Our sympathy to her family.
We are happy that Evelyn Wagoner, a recent resident at the center,
is recuperating from a close call with pneumonia. Evelyn is an RSVP
member and a long-time resident of LaGrande.
We also wish a speedy recovery for Archie Padberg who was airlifted
to Portland with a heart problem. A healthy recovery to them all.
We are all very sorry about Irene Schroeder's passing away. She
was a long-time resident of the center and was an asset to the senior
center and the community. She was also very helpful and kind to me.
"the new kid on the block" from the East Coast. Our sympathy to all
of her family.
Exercise class was held Tuesday in the morning, with one card table
of players with the usual coffee and treats. Bud says, "Dick (you know
who you are) got his late 1920s "Model A" on the road, and wishes "Get
Well, Lynnea," w ho broke her kneecap.
There were 100 diners and take-outs at the Wednesday Mother's
Day dinner, with a prayer by Paul Miller. The dinner was served by Dorothy
Green, Barbara Ansotegui and Pauline Matheny of Hope and Valby
Lutheran churches. We also had a chance to wish and sing "Happy Birthday”
to Edith Mathews who is 89 years young.
Please put these dates on your calendar or date book:
Friday, May 18-the new 19-passenger senior bus will be going to
the Capeco open house in Pendleton. The bus wiil leave the center at
9 a.m. If interested, call or get your name on the list at the center office.
Ed Baker will be the RSVP driver and Velma Wright, the bus hostess.
Lunch plans will be decided en route
Thursday, May 24-a bus will be leaving for "bingo lovers" to the
arts building in Lexington. The bus will leave at 5 p.m. Refreshments
are available there also.
Corol Mitchell hopes to have shopping trips via the senior bus to
Hermiston and would like to plan a picnic outing in a suitable place
or park to relax and go "barefoot in the grass."
Exercise class was held on Thursday morning, with a light lunch
of turkey soup, salad, combread. pudding and beverage follow ing. The
afternoon movie was "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner" with Spencer
Tracy and Katherine Hepburn, enjoyed by all.
There was only one table of card players on Friday with the coffeepot
on and goodies for the players and the "puzzle comer." A lot of residents
went out of town for family gatherings for the Mother's Day weekend.
Due to illness and vacation trips, the RSVP drivers and office staff
are operating on a skeleton crew basis, so please be patient with us as
we are doing our best. We hope to improve!
The Wednesday, May 16, menu was chicken fettucini with mushrooms,
