Greenfield Grange Efforts made to bridge

Greenfield Grange in Boardman
will prepare a St. Patrick's dinner
at the hall on Friday, March 16, from
5:30-7:30 p.m.
The menu will be corned beef
and cabbage, a buftet salad, biscuits
and dessert for $6, all you can eat.
Added features for the evening
are dancing in the big hall; the DJ
will have a variety o f music. A
photographer will also be available
to take pictures.
Everyone is invited to attend.
"Come and enjoy a little bit of the
Irish with us,” said a grange
spokesperson.

The Willow Creek V alley Assisted Living Corporation has received a $12,000 grant from the Meyer
Memorial I rust. I he grant monies will be used for signs, marketing and a grandchildren's playground

Garden Club
plans meeting
The Heppner Garden Club will meet
Monday, March 5, at the St. Patrick's
Senior Center at 6:30 p.m. to hear
an update on the Morrow County
Health District.
The new hospital administrator,
Victor Vander Does, will be the
guest speaker.
The Garden Club reminds
members that the new meeting time
is at 6:30 p.m.
The public is invited to attend
the meeting.

THe Oregon Trail Pathfinder Club
participated in the recent Red Cross
Teddy Bear/Towel Drive by helping
to pick up donated items.
Approximately 85 items were picked
up and added to the donations
brought in by other teams who also
helped with the pick up.
This is one of several helping
and caring activities in which
Pathfinders have participated. Others
include collecting canned goods
for the Neighborhood Center,
making cookies for the elderly and
making cards for the nursing home
residents.
Mabel Allen to
celebrate 95th
4-H Club News

A 95th birthday party for
Mabel Allen, Boardman, will be
held this Sunday, March 4, from
2-5 p.m. at the Riverview Center
in Boardman.
She requests no gifts, but
instead asks those attending to
bring a story to share.
Allen, who has lived in
Morrow County for almost 80
years, still lives independently
and recently renewed her driver’s
license, says son Gene Allen.
Allen also enjoys traveling and
drove with her son to Alaska last
June and flew to Florida in
January.
Allen
married
her
husband, Arthur, in Arlington in
1925. He passed away in June of
1989. She was a homemaker and
she and her husband owned the
Texaco service station in
Boardman. She is still the owner
and leases the building out.
Several years ago Allen
was honored by the Morrow
County Fair and Oregon Trail
Pro Rodeo.
Allen has a son, Gene,
Boardman, 12 grandchildren,
several great-grandchildren and
one great, great-grandchild. Son,
Clayton, died earlier.

a can and bottle drive following
the St. Patrick's Celebration.
The pick-up date will be
announced later.
The seniors ask that
people save their cans and bottles
to help benefit the senior class
trip to Coeur d' Alene.
Spray Rodeo
queen tryouts
March 31
Tryouts for the May 26-27 Spray
rodeo will be Saturday, March 31,
at 4 p.m. at the Spray rodeo grounds.
Contestants do not have to be
local or Wheeler County residents,
however, they must be at least 15
years old and never married.
The queen will be announced
that evening and crowned by 2000

communities. "It was recognized that there is a rurai/urban divide and we
need to do something about it," White said. She is planning on arranging
a visit to Heppner by 12 to 15 people within the next several months.

Quilting class to
get underway
A beginning quilting class will
start Tuesday, March 6, at 7 p.m.
at the Greenfield Grange in
Boardman. The class will be held
once a month and will cover a
variety of patterns and techniques.

earns honors
Justin
Nelson,
Lexington, a student at Oregon
State University and Linn-
Benton Community College, has
been inducted into Phi Eta
Sigma, a national scholastic
honor society which recognizes
high academic achievement
among university freshmen.
Nelson, who maintains a
4.0, was inducted on February
25.
