SIX - Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, August 2, 2000 Naptime Commission to meet Tiny Macy Gibbs of Heppner fell asleep on a rug at the Gaaette- Times office in the space of a few minutes Tuesday while mom Sue Gibbs took care of Oregon Trail Pro Rodeo business. Macy and her mom had just returned from a swim at the Willow Creek Water Park. Chamber Chatter By Claudia Hughe*, Chamber Manager 4-H News Hats off to the organizers of the Little League tournaments who took the "bull by the horns" to bring many visitors to Heppner; and to the volunteers who made it happen. Yes, some were frustrated with not enough accommodations but rallied and had a great time in spite o f the longer drive. They discovered our "can do" spirit and plan to return. Speaking o f "spirit". There was a lot of spirit in the "Celebrate Heppner" music provided by Tom Sly at the Senior Center during the sidewalk sale. Many commented about how refreshing it was to hear jazz and easy listening music on the street. What a great idea to add variety and reserve the traditional Irish music for St. Pat's weekend and western music for fair and rodeo. The tapes were turned off for the live music at 4 p.m. Many hours of work were put into them. Would the person who came by the Senior Center and collected the tapes please return them to the Chamber. Next week at chamber Tom Wolff and Tom Sly will share the Willow Creek Valley presentation, which was viewed by the Portland delegation and those who participated in the Baker/Morrow Partnership meeting at the Port o f Morrow on Monday. I've been sitting here in my rocking chair for a spell trying to remember what it was I wanted to say. something about a p arty .. . Now I remember. At Music in the Park at Irrigon I was totally blown away by a great surprise party. I really did not have a clue. (Dang, why is that timer going o ff... ? Sorry 'bout the delay, but it was time to soak my dentures.) Okay, now what was I saying . . . Hmmm ... Oh yes, the surprise party; that really was the most excitement I've had since retirement. (Where are those reading glasses? Oops, on my forehead. . ." Anyway, there I was trying to get my night vision back after the big five-oh sign was plugged in when the lone delegation arrives in what looks suspiciously like a senior citizen bus. (Whoa! Laxative time, be right back.) So we all sang along, ate fried chicken and cake and had a really good time . Hours later, regards, (s) Tim Cundell A big congratulations to the Little League for bringing the 11- 12 year old tournam ent to Heppner. It was great to see so many folks in the community pitching in to help and having a lot of good family fun. I would like to thank the Little League for the recognition o f the fountain and also the honor o f throwing out the first pitch. While this was certainly not necessary, it was deeply appreciated.
