She has also been involved with several community activities, including volunteering at the nursing home. She has done work experience at Pioneer Memorial Hospital as a lab assistant and nurse's assistant. She plans on enrolling at Albertson College to obtain her bachelor's degree, and then go on to medical school. Ashley Ropp has also been very active in student government athletics and student activity clubs. She has been an honor student and will graduate fourth in her class. Ashley plans to enter college this fall with the goal of becoming a dental hygienist. Stephanie Clough OSU lists local grads 9 Jr : \ Trisha Adams Oregon State University's "booming enrollment" over the last three years will be evident this June 11, when one of the largest graduating classes in recent memory goes through the university's annual commencement ceremony. In fact, the university has had to separate commencement into two sessions this year to accommodate the mass of students. During the two ceremonies, OSU will confer nearly 3,700 degrees, an increase of about eight percent over last year. Graduate students will have their own ceremony this year, which will run from 9-10:30 a.m. at LaSells Stewart Center on campus. At the graduate commencement, the university will confer about 250 doctoral degrees and 620 master's-/ degrees. The afternoon ceremony for undergraduates will begin at 2 p.m. in Gill Coliseum. The university will confer about 2,800 bachelor's degrees during commencement, which ^wfll be televised live by Oregon Public Broadcasting. A list of OSU students graduating from this area includes: John Qualls, bachelor of science, crop science and soil science; and Janet Stefani, bachelor of science, forest management, both of Heppner; Ryan Munkers, bachelor of science, agricultural business management, Lexington; Alejandra Torres-Pacheco, bachelor of arts, business administration, Boardman; Elizabeth Smith, bachelor of science, crop science and soil science and Jeremy D. Tovey, Bachelor of Science, Agricultural Business Management, both of Irrigon. Ashley Ropp Pioneer Memorial Hospital Foundation has announced its scholarship winners. The hospital foundation annually grants awards to students who are furthering their education in health care related fields. The foundation awarded the Dr. Wallace Wolff scholarship for $600 to Jessica Van Winkle. She is a junior at Eastern Oregon University in pre-nursing. After obtaining her nursing degree she plans to enroll at OHSU to complete her training to be a nurse practitioner. Jessica has worked summers at Pioneer Memorial Hospital as a CNA. The foundation awarded scholarships of $400 each to Crystal Tallman and Brooke Boyer. Tallman, who is a junior in the nursing program at Oregon Health Sciences University, has had clinical experience at University Hospital and Doembechers. Brooke Boyer who is pursuing nursing at Boise State. Brooke's goal is also to become a nurse practitioner. The foundation awarded $250 scholarships to three members of the 2000 graduation class at Heppner High School, Stephanie Clough, Trisha Adams and Ashley Ropp. Stephanie Clough, who has been very active in student government as well as being a member of the National Honor Society, Knowledge Master team. Danielle McDowell will be attending a two-week summer program of the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine in Boston. Kathleen Greenup will be participating in the Mt. Hood Community College 2000 Summer Spanish Program in San Miguel De Allende, Mexico. A can drive was held recently which raised approximately $400. A winning ticket will be drawn at the spaghetti dinner for an afghan crocheted by Kathleen's grandmother, Pat Gentry, which is on display in the window of Heppner TV. Tickets for the afghan are $1 each or six for $5. Cost of the spaghetti dinner will be $6 for adults, $4 for children 10 and under and $20 for a family. Dinner will be served from 6-8 p.m. "These are wonderful opportunities for both girls and we appreciate all the support of the community, family and friends," said Janet Greenup and Menlee McDowell, mothers of the girls.
