Contestants vie for bartender's trophy The O'Graybeal's Bartender Race is especially important this year, for one of the contesting businesses could lay permanent claim to the trophy. Presently, the trophy is displayed at Bucknum's Tavem, the winning business last year. Bucknum's has won the race twice, but Beecher's Restaurant and Lounge has also won two times. If either of the two wins this year, the trophy will become a permanent fixture behind the winner's bar. Neither business can take success for granted, however, and they must both be prepared to meet and prevail over the other expected challengers. Both Cal's and the Elks Club have been encouraged to send their best tenders. Should either of those two win, Bucknum's and Beecher's will have to wait one more year to try to lay permanent claim on the trophy. The race will begin at the shamrock after the 12:30 p.m. bagpipe performance, just preceding the 1 p.m. parade. Major boys, girls tryouts March 16-17 Heppner Little League will hold tryouts for boys and girls major teams on Thursday, March 16, and Friday, March 17, at 3:30 p.m. each day.
