JV girls walked away with a win
against the Tigers, defeating
Stanfield 31-26.
Freshman Tracy Griffith led the
Lady Cardinals with six points
and dished up one assist. Diana
McElligott contributed five
points and robbed four balls
from the Lady Tigers. Jennifer
Thompson also had five points
to her credit. Jeanette Brantley
had an excellent game, with four
points, four steals and five
rebounds. Cyndi Heagy was the
leading rebounder for the Lady
Cardinals with six rebounds.
Kristina Powell was also a
leading force on the boards for
the Cardinal team.
The lone squad came out at the
beginning of the first quarter and
were relentless, letting the
Stanfield team score only one
point to the Cardinals' nine
points, By half time the
Cardinals were 26 points ahead
of Stanfield.
The Tigers came out in the
fourth quarter and tried to revive
their chances by scoring 13.

Senior Nikki McElligott and
Camie Burright led the Lady
Cardinals with 19 points each.
McElligott

rebounds, seven steals and eight
assists. Bum ght brought down
six rebounds, four steals and
three assists. Allison Halvorsen
showed great effort by bringing
down four rebounds, robbing
two balls and handing out four
assists for the Cardinal team.
The Lady Cardinals shot 75
percent from the free throw line,
making three o f four attempts.
A last second launch by
sophomore Adam Neiffer put
the lone men over the Tigers,
67-65.
Stanfield started the first half
ahead of the Cardinals with a
score of 38-32. lone came out in
the third quarter to add 17 points
and allowing the Tigers to score
16 points. Two three-point
missiles by Mark McElligott in
the fourth quarter hit their target.
Combined with an additional 12
points, the Cardinals came
within one point of Stanfield
with just seconds left in the
game.
Adam Neiffer canned the
winning shot, bringing home a
Cardinal victory.
Coach Dennis Stefani said he
was pleased with the way his
team
performed.
Mark
McElligott scored 24 points for
the Cardinals, brought down five
rebounds, blocked two Tiger
shots, grabbed four steals and
handed out four assists for the
Cardinals. Brad Burright stored
21 points, brought down nine
rebounds and blocked one shot.
David Mansfeld scored eight
points, robbed one ball from the
Tigers and delivered three
assists. Cory Bennetto, a well
known force on the boards for
the Cardinals, walked away with
eight rebounds for a total o f 38
rebounds for the season.
Heppner C-team boys clip Eagles

The Heppner M ustang “C”
team boys rallied in the fourth
quarter to nip the visiting Spray
Eagles, 37-35, on Thursday, Dec.
9, to get their first win of the sea
son. They are now 1-2.
The Mustangs played well in
the first quarter, building a 6-2 lead,
but went cold in the second and
led only 15-13 at halftime. The
Eagles came out hot in the sec
ond half, building a six point lead
in the fourth before the Mustangs
began their comeback.

a huge game to lead the Heppner
Mustangs girls varsity to an easy
60-27 win over the visiting Echo
Cougars on Tuesday, Dec. 7. The
win im proved the M ustangs’

The Mustangs jumped out to a
24-3 lead after one and led 34-15
at halftime. The Mustangs put the
game away in the third, outscoring
the Cougars 19-0.

The Heppner Mustang varsity
girls basketball team took second
place at the Condon Christmas
Tournament over the weekend of
Dec. 10-11 after losing to Condon,
53-33.
The Mustangs stayed with the
Blue Devils in the first quarter,
trailing only 7-6 after one and were
behind 20-14 at halftime. But the
Mustangs came out cold in the
second half, getting outscored 33-
19, to suffer their second loss of
the pre-season. The Mustangs’
record is now 4-2.
Casey Ingraham led the Mus
tangs with 11 points, six rebounds
and two assists. Ashley Ropp had
seven points and three steals.
Amy Papineau had five points and
five rebounds. San Juanita
Elguezabal pulled down six re
bounds.
To get to the championship
game, the Mustangs easily de
feated the shorthanded Prairie
City Panthers, 62-28. The Pan
thers, withjust five players, could
not keep up with the Mustangs,
falling behind 21-8 after one and
32-15 at halftime.

team girls, with two players from
the JV team, lost a close game to
the lone JVs, 27-23, in lone on

The Mustangs and Cardinals
were tied at 14-14 at halftime, but

points in both the third and fourth
quarters to get the win.
Jesse Gutierrez hit three three-

Nov. 20: MCSO, Heppner
Police Dept., Heppner ambulance
received a report of a 40-50 year
old man with a 30.06 gunshot to
his hand at a camp above Cutsforth
Park. He was brought down by
private vehicle and was losing a
lot of blood. The subject, who said
the gun blew up on him, was air
lifted out.
Heppner Police Dept, received
a 911 call from a Heppner resi
dence. An officer found a verbal
domestic dispute in progress. The
male half of the dispute told the
HPD officer to leave and he did
with no action taken.
MCSO received a report of a
threatening phone call in Irrigon.
Boardman Police Dept, re
ceived a report of possible child
abuse in Boardman. It was deter
mined to be a verbal dispute only.
MCSO received a report o f a
dog secured in a black vehicle for
a week in Imgon.
MCSO received a report of a
man lying off Highway 730 across
from the school in Imgon. An of
ficer was unable to locate anyone.

cursing left on a phone message.
