Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, November 10, 1999 - FIVE lone wins District 3-1A c h a m p io n s h ip , now heads to state tournament lone defended their number one seed against South Wasco County High School, defeating the Redsides in two games, 15-2, 15-8, at Wahtonka High School, the host for the 3-1A District Tournament. The l ady Cardinals nearly flawlessly executed the first game. Tone started the match with the serve. Erin Crowell set up a beautiful set assist to Nikki McElligott who made an enormous kill for the first point of the game. McElligott was a menace to the Redsides, hitting hard at the net and blocking anything she could get her hands on. It was also the precision setting by Crowell that allowed senior Brandi Brantley to pound a huge kill cross court. The lone team relaxed a little more than their coach would have liked at the beginning of game two and allowed the Redsides to score the first five points. It was McElligott's tip to the open spot on the court that rallied the lone squad to play the level of ball that the Lady Cardinals are accustomed to. Camie Burnght made a colossal kill to even the score at 5-5 and the game remained tight for the next six points. Salli McElligott and Shelby Krebs did an outstanding performance coming off the bench for the Cardinals. Erin Crowell led the Lady Cardinals in set assists and had 12 points to her credit. Freshman Diana McElligott launched over missile-like serves, low to the net and hard to return, for a total of eight points. ITie team served 92 percent, was 93 percent successful on serve-receives and hit 96 percent at the net. Erin Crowell, Diana McElligott, Chanssa Gates and Amellia Peck served 100 percent for the lone team. rhree senior Cardinal team members, Nikki McElligott, Erin Crowell and Camie Burright, were chosen for the All-Star T eam Honorable Mention went to freshman Diana McElligott, sophomore Amellia Peck and senior Brandi Brantley. The lone Lady Cardinals will be headed to Eugene on Thursday to participate in the State 1A Volleyball Tournament. lone will play Crane High School on Friday, Nov. 12, at 5 p.m. at Lane Community College.
