August 1 1 ,1999-Page 7 Fair snack shack benefits 4-H Leaders Council The 4-H Snack Shack produces the major source of income for the Morrow County 4-H Leaders Council. The council uses this income to provide such programs as 4-H camp, 4-H Teen Leadership Retreat, and materials for all 4-H program areas. The Leaders Council also funds many fair awards. All 4-H members benefit from the proceeds that are earned by the Snack Shack., said Bill Broderick Morrow County Extension agent. Many 4-H leaders help in the Snack Shack at fair. They do this because they understand how important the proceeds are to the 4-H program, he said. But, the leaders are so busy at fair it is not right to ask them to take care of their 4-H club and then work even longer in the Snack Shack, he added. Parents of 4-H members, this is an opportunity for you to help your children and your child's 4- H leader. Volunteer to help in the Snack Shack. Listed below are the different communities and the respective day managers. Please call them and volunteer to help at the Snack Shack. If you can't help the day your community is responsible for the Snack Shack, just volunteer to help whenever you can. The schedule is as follows: Wednesday, August 18, Irrigon, Runnisha McNamee; Thursday, August 19, Boardman, Glaya Baker; Friday, August 20, Heppner, Janet Greenup; Saturday, August 21, lone, Som ething fo r everyone to eat a t th e fa ir You say you like fair and rodeo? You say you like to eat? Well, the Morrow County Fair is the place for you, beginning August 18. Not only will there be the usual hamburgers, hot dogs, pop and candy one can find at the 4-H Snack Shack, but several businesses and organizations are bringing special cuisines to the fairgrounds for this year's fair. Once again the Church of the Nazarene will sell slices of homemade pies in the fair building, alongside the First Christian Church who will be selling taco salads from 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, and the Willow Valley Service Club who will be selling their baked potatoes. This year they have added strawberry shortcake to their menu. Outside fair-goers will find Shalimar's fajitas, Zamora's Mexican Food, Lind's popcorn and cotton candy and C & R Ice snow cones. New to the fair this year, Bucknum's will be selling barbecued sandwiches and sausages; Heppner Senior Center will be selling ice cream cones, A Tradition For Our County Jewelers 676 9200 “See You At The Fair!” Shelly Key. and Empire Bank Get involved in the county fair! We go to the Morrow County Fair to look at the flowers, watch the 4-H members compete, and check out the livestock. But, says there is no doubt that fair is always more fun if we are part of the event! There is still time to participate. The fair opens to the public on August 18, but exhibits are accepted on Monday, August 16. Tum through your Morrow County Fair Premium Book right now and look at all the opportunities to be part of the fun and Perkins from Springfield will be selling fish and chips, shrimp and crab cocktails, cajun fish sandwiches, homemade onion rings and clam strips. Needless to say there is something for everyone to eat at the fair. Proudly Supports You can enter vegetables, fruits and flowers from our gardens, wearable art, and needlework. Don't overlook the chance to exhibit home preserved foods, just be sure to use up-to-date r e c o mme n d a t i o n s for processing.
