TWO - Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, August 4, 1999 Class of 1949 holds reunion Nonnee Walters wins grand champion at 4-H horseshow; Bobbie Rankin reserve grand champion Morrow County Fair and Oregon Trail Pro Rodeo Princess Nonnee Walters o f lone was the grand champion o f the Morrow County 4-H Horse Show held August 1 at the Morrow County Fairgrounds. Morrow County fair and OTPR Queen Bobbie Rankin, Heppner, received reserve grand champion honors. Walters also received reserve champion in senior horse showmanship and senior western equitation and reserve champion in senior trail horse. Rankin was champion o f senior horse showmanship, senior trail horse and senior hunt seat over fences and reserve champion o f the senior English equitation- saddle seat, western equitation- colt equitation and individual barrel race. Ann Shear o f lone was champion o f the individual barrel race and individual pole bending and reserve champion o f the senior western equitation. Kevin Baker o f Boardman was champion o f senior trail horse and senior English equitation- saddle seat and reserve champion of western equitation-colt equitation and senior hunt seat over fences. Fair and rodeo Princess Tracey Rankin was reserve champion in individual pole bending. Tammy Booth o f Boardman was champion of the intermediate bareback equitation, intermediate English equitation saddle seat, intermediate western equitation western equitation-colt equitation and intermediate horse showmanship. Kelsey Greenup, Heppner, was champion o f intermediate trail horse and reserve champion o f * intermediate western equitation. Tasha Hollis, Heppner, took reserve champion in intermediate trail horse and intermediate bareback equitation. Brian Bunch, Imgon. was reserve champion in intermediate horse showmanship. Mika Schnell, Imgon, was reserve champion in intermediate English equitation-saddle seat. Kristal Temple, Lexington, was champion in colt ground training and junior English equitation- saddle seat and reserve champion m junior horse showmanship. David Flynn was junior horse showmanship champion. The instruction was provided by George Jamieson of the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training. Broad agency representation at the session included staff from: the Boardman and lone Fire departments, the Port of Morrow and managers from the county departments of: Emergency Management. Public Health, Juvenile. Children & Families. Public Works. Finance. Planning and Personnel as well as the Sheriffs Office, County Court. Clerk's Office, Assessor's Office and County Counsel. "The ICS provides an organized, systematic method of responding to crisis situations no matter what the nature, size or scope - from floods and fires to chemical spills and traffic accidents," said the court. According to Morrow County Judge Terry Tallman, who initiated the training, it provided valuable skills enhancement as well as an opportunity for the different agencies to identify important resources available for emergency response. imwtimtnmti mm h « tho » ti "It was an excellent example of a unified effort to coordinate multiple jurisdictions in Morrow County with a common goal of providing a cohesive response to our citizens in the event of an emergency," said Judge Tallman. By Rick Paullus The Willow Creek Majors Little League All-Stars traveled to the District 5 Tournament held in Pnneville on July 16-17. They lost two games and were eliminated. Willow Creek ran into a good Hood River team in their first game and, although they played a great game, they couldn't get the clutch hits when they needed to and ended up losing, 5-0. However, the Hood River pitcher was a little better, allowing just two Willow Creek hits and causing 11 strikeouts. Jode Coil had a double and Victor Bedner a single for Willow Creek. Willow Creek came out flat against Columbia the next day and lost 7-0 to be eliminated from the tournament. Willow Creek managed just three hits, with Coil, Bedner and Tyler Boyer each getting singles. Coil pitched a good game, striking out 11 Columbia batters. Team members included Jode New rodeo season begins The Oregon High School Rodeo Association will begin the 1999-2000 rodeo season with a September 4-5 rodeo in Gilliam County hosted by the Columbia Basin High School Rodeo Club. That rodeo will be followed by *| competitions throughout the state every weekend in September. Area competitors from The Dalles to Heppner are members o f the Columbia Basin High School Rodeo Club.
