Accounting Although she didn't
play sports you could frequently
find her on weekends at the ball
games rooting for her cousins
and helping her mom keep
basketball statistics.
Dana and Tonya's son Aaron
graduated from lone in 1994. He
was selected for the Shrine
football team and the All Star

She played volleyball and was
on
the
state
basketball
championship team in 1990.
She is currently living in Seattle
with her new baby.
Kelly was "really good at

chosen for the All-Star East
team. He also enjoyed playing
basketball. He is currently
attending
Eastern
Oregon
University in LaGrande and is
on their football team.
Korey will be a junior at lone

especially
enjoys
playing
t basketball.
Karl will be a freshman at lone
this coming year. He will be the
football team manager this year,
and will be out on the basketball
court this coming season.
Is it any wonder why you see
the Heideman family at most of
the lone sports games? Loren
and Dell are doing the referee
duties for football, volleyball,
softball and basketball. Dana
was the lone girls' basketball
coach for 10 years. He had two
state championships during that
time and several district
championships. Loa will be up
in the stands with a clipboard,
pencil and paper keeping stats or
running the time clock for the
basketball games. Debbie helps
with the cheering and is an
active member of the Booster
Club. Virgil also referees
basketball and baseball games
and keeps the time clock at ball
games. Butch can be found
behind the camera taping all of
the basketball games. Helen
keeps the score books for the
girls' basketball team.
Besides participating in sports
the Heideman family has other
interests. They owned and
operated the lone Hardware
Store for five years. Some of
them are active members of the
lone United Church of Christ,
Lion's Club, Elks, Masons,
Booster Club and the lone Fire
Dept.
They enjoy boating,
fishing,
snowmobile rides,
golfing and hunting. Loren and
Dell have taken up motorcycle
riding. Loa and Mark enjoy
scuba diving.
Loren and Dana have both had
severe
injuries
while
snowmobiling. Loren's occurred
when his machine fell on him,
striking his head and giving him
a concussion. Dana's more
recent injury occurred when he
struck an unseen rock pile and
was thrown from the vehicle. He
sustained severe injuries, but
"through praye, operations,
therapy,
hard
work
and
determination, he is on the
mend.
'Tone is a very nice, small
community that put out the
welcome mat and said, 'come on
down and stay awhile,"’ said the
Heidemans. Twenty-three years
later, they're still here.

editor's note: The following column will appear periodically with
information about Heppner's website (www.heppner.net). What's new,
what's different and what you can find there.
Quite a few new things have been added recently to the Heppner
Home Page web site. In the business section we have recently added
web pages for Gardner’s Men's Wear, Dennis Wall’s Custom Leather
Goods, as well as a real estate section with pictures, descriptions and
prices of homes and other property for sale in the Heppner area.
In a new section called pictures, Erik Patton contributed a nice
collection of photos taken around Heppner, so you can take a little
picture tour of Heppner.
The activities section has shown the biggest growth on the Heppner
web site, with new web pages added for the Willow Creek
Campground (you can make reservations nght on-line), a special two
page site on the cycling advantages of south Morrow County, web
pages for the 1999 Morrow County Fair (which has a schedule of
events for those who don't have access to a premium book) and the
Oregon Trail Pro Rodeo. The activities section also has web pages
for the two county parks, Anson Wright and Cutsforth parks. There
are 14 pictures of each campg/ound for a nice picture tour for web
surfers.
Under the organizations section of the Heppner Home Page there are
new web pages for the Heppner Economic Development Corp. and the
Heppner Chamber of Commerce. The HEDC page gives an overview
of the services and other economic activities in Heppner, and the
Chamber of Commerce page is titled, "Heppner Where rural is for
real".
As usual there are still links to the Health District web site, the Blue
Mountain Scenic Byway, The Heppner Gazette, Bank of Eastern
Oregon, MCGG, Dr. Rolen's Optometrist page, the City of Heppner
(where by the way you can peruse or search city council or planning
commission minutes of meetings) a link to the Morrow Co. home
page, the St. Patrick's Senior Center, the museum, and the Heppner
Lions Club. And don't forget you can also send a free digital postcard
from the Heppner Home Page. It's a regular e-mail with a picture
(choose from several) of the Heppner area attached.
If you have ever wondered about the world-wide reach of the
Internet consider what a recent examination of the Heppner web site
logs show. These were hits from the following countries: Germany
461; United Kingdom 137; Canada 125; Israel 122; Sweden 105;
France 96; Ireland 77; Australia 76; Japan 73; Austria 70; New
Zealand 42; Netherlands 39; Turkey 35; Denmark 34; Mexico 20
South Africa 18; and Italy, Finland and Singapore 10 each. What does
it all mean? Don't know, but it is kind of interesting.

Heppner city crewmember Randy Sample prepares for placement
of new valve on a city water main on Riverside street last Thursday.
The new valve (along with a second valve) will enable city crews to
shut down water to just part of the city. Previously for work to be
done or in the event of an emergency, water to the entire city would
have to be shut off, says city Manager Jerry Breazeale.
