Dana and Tonya's son Aaron graduated from lone in 1994. He was selected for the Shrine football team and the All Star East basketball team. He recently graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in agri-business. He is engaged to his high school sweetheart, MaryJane McCarty, and they are planning their wedding for Sept. 11, 1999. Nathan graduated from lone in 1995. He played football and was chosen for the All-Star East team. He also enjoyed basketball and track. He graduated from Blue Mt. Community College and is currently farming with his dad and uncle Loren and has joined the lone Fire Dept. Debbie and Virgil's children have kept them very busy. Kan graduated in 1992 from lone. She played volleyball and was on the state basketball championship team in 1990. She is currently living in Seattle with her new baby. Kelly was "really good at football. With his size you knew when you were hit." He was chosen for the All-Star East team. He also enjoyed playing basketball. He is currently attending Eastern Oregon University in LaGrande and is on their football team. Korey will be a junior at lone this coming year. He got a lot of playing time on the football team this past season. He especially enjoys playing t basketball. Karl will be a freshman at lone this coming year. He will be the football team manager this year, and will be out on the basketball court this coming season. Is it any wonder why you see the Heideman family at most of the lone sports games? Loren and Dell are doing the referee duties for football, volleyball, softball and basketball. Dana was the lone girls' basketball coach for 10 years. He had two state championships during that time and several district championships. Loa will be up in the stands with a clipboard, pencil and paper keeping stats or running the time clock for the basketball games. Debbie helps with the cheering and is an active member of the Booster Club. Virgil also referees basketball and baseball games and keeps the time clock at ball games. Butch can be found behind the camera taping all of the basketball games. Helen keeps the score books for the girls' basketball team. Besides participating in sports the Heideman family has other interests. They owned and operated the lone Hardware Store for five years. Some of them are active members of the lone United Church of Christ, Lion's Club, Elks, Masons, Booster Club and the lone Fire Dept. They enjoy boating, fishing, snowmobile rides, golfing and hunting. Loren and Dell have taken up motorcycle riding. Loa and Mark enjoy scuba diving. Loren and Dana have both had severe injuries while snowmobiling. Loren's occurred when his machine fell on him, striking his head and giving him a concussion. Dana's more recent injury occurred when he struck an unseen rock pile and was thrown from the vehicle. He sustained severe injuries, but "through praye, operations, therapy, hard work and determination, he is on the mend. 'Tone is a very nice, small community that put out the welcome mat and said, 'come on down and stay awhile,"’ said the Heidemans. Twenty-three years later, they're still here. Engagement wwwtheppneiMift Notice to the citizens who utilize and enjoy the Willow Creek (Coat Mine Grade) area: The U.S. Dept. of T ransportation lists its planned construction activities continued from last year on Willow Creek Road for the week of Monday, June 28: Tidewater Contractors, Inc., has been blading the Shaw Grade Detour Route, preparing to place some maintenance aggregate on the roadway for the summer construction season. The aggregate will be hauled from the Skinner Creek Quarry Site located near M.P. 8 on FS- 53 Road from Heppner to Ukiah. Watch for the truck signs near this location. After they finish placing the maintenance aggregate they will place a dust control agent on the road. There will be some truck traffic on the FS-53 Road (Highway to Ukiah) between the Penland Lake Road and the 20 MPH Comer for a couple of weeks. Observe the flaggers and watch for traffic on Coal Mine Grade. Tidewater is presently working on the ditch line and removing the waste material from the slope failure that occurred this past winter. This work will be performed in conjunction with the rest of the work being done to complete the project. Emergency access through the project and will be maintained throughout the construction season. Willow Creek Road will remain open, to local traffic only, as far as Cutsforth Park. In the business section we have recently added web pages for Gardner’s Men's Wear, Dennis Wall’s Custom Leather Goods, as well as a real estate section with pictures, descriptions and prices of homes and other property for sale in the Heppner area. In a new section called pictures, Erik Patton contributed a nice collection of photos taken around Heppner, so you can take a little picture tour of Heppner. The activities section has shown the biggest growth on the Heppner web site, with new web pages added for the Willow Creek Campground (you can make reservations nght on-line), a special two page site on the cycling advantages of south Morrow County, web pages for the 1999 Morrow County Fair (which has a schedule of events for those who don't have access to a premium book) and the Oregon Trail Pro Rodeo. The activities section also has web pages for the two county parks, Anson Wright and Cutsforth parks. There are 14 pictures of each campg/ound for a nice picture tour for web surfers. Under the organizations section of the Heppner Home Page there are new web pages for the Heppner Economic Development Corp. and the Heppner Chamber of Commerce. The HEDC page gives an overview of the services and other economic activities in Heppner, and the Chamber of Commerce page is titled, "Heppner Where rural is for real".
