Local high school rodeoers head to state finals Brian and Blake Knowles and Ryan Matteson, all of Heppner will go into the State Finals Rodeo June 16-20 with top 10 seedings. Brian is seeded ninth in steer wrestling and fourth in saddle bronc and Blake is fourth and 10th in the same events, respectively. They are also seeded seventh in team roping. The Knowles brothers are members of the Intermountain High School Rodeo Team. Matteson, a member of the Columbia Basin High School Rodeo Club, is seeded second in steer wrestling and 11th in call roping. Sybil Krebs of lone is seeded 12th in barrel racing and 16th in breakaway roping and Ann Shear of lone is 18th in barrel racing and 19th in breakaway. In the May 1-2 rodeo held at Hermiston, Ryan won the steer westling event with a time of 4.3. Blake finished fourth in the saddle bronc with a 68; 10th in calf roping with a 17.96, and seventh in steer wrestling with a time of 10.4 Brian took fifth in steer wrestling with a time of 7.9. Sybil took home eighth place in barrel racing with an 18.612. Ann took fifth in breakaway with a time of 4.59. Nataly Tatone, Roseburg, who has family in Boardman, finished up as the barrel racing champion with a time of 18.053 and placed seventh in the girls' cutting with a 66. Her sister, Jessica, finished seventh in barrel racing with an 18.601 and ninth in breakaway with a 5.78. In rodeo action the following weekend at Redmond, Brian took second place in saddle bronc with a 59. Blake took sixth place in steer wrestling with a 20.43. Ryan took eighth in calf roping with a 23.95. Sybil posted an 18.326 in barrel racing for seventh place. Nataly was seventh m goat tying with a 10.776 and Jessica finished fourth in breakaway with a 5.84. Nataly and Jessica were second and third in girls' cutting with a 72 and 72.5 respectively. At the John Day Rodeo May 15-16, Blake won the steer wrestling event with a 6.18. Ryan took third place with a 7.62 and teamed up for second place in team roping with an 11.84 second run. Nataly was second in barrel racing with a 17.934; Jessica in fourth with an 18.066; and Sybil in ninth with an 18.399. Nataly won the pole bending event with a 20.157 and Jessica was 10th with a 22.117. Nataly also won the barrel racing at the Klamath Falls rodeo May 22-23 with a time of 17.616. Jessica was third with an 18.019. Ann finished fifth in pole bending with a 21.863. Nataly was 10th in breakaway with a 6.26 and ninth in girls' cutting with a 69. Blake finished in third place in steer wrestling with a time of 23.01 seconds. Blake and Brian captured fourth place in team roping with a 17.61. In the Ontario rodeo May 29- 30, Nataly won the barrel racing event with a time 18.162, was second in pole bending with a 20.841, third in breakaway with a 5.7 and eighth in girls' cutting with a 64. Sybil earned fourth place in barrel racing with a time of 18.524. Meghan Bailey of Heppner took ninth place in breakaway with a 10.50. Ryan was ninth in calf roping with a 22.12; Blake was third in steer wrestling with a 30-second finish; and the two teamed up to win the team roping event with a 9.49. Sybil and Ty Sturza teamed up for ninth in team roping with a 17.81. * * * In other rodeo action, Shane Eng of Lexington rode High Tide for 72 points and $433.20 at the Spray Rodeo held Memorial Day weekend.
